I`ve been taking the dogs to the woods recently instead of swimming as our lakes have warnings at the moment about blue/green algy and botchalism.
Trouble is they often get ticks from the woods and now Ive got one right under my belly button,it`s too small to remove at the mo and I planned on waiting 3-4 days till it was fat enuf to extract,UNLESS anyone knows of a treatment/potion that would make it fall out sooner, thanks.

If it stays on you for more than 24-48 hours it can then transmit lyme disease! Take it off immediately with a pair of tweezers right at the top of the head so you get it out. If it is that small it maybe a deer tick which do transmit lyme disease. IMO I would call your doctor....

If it was that tiny , it could have been a deer tick ....they are the Lyme carriers. watch for any signs !

I am probably going to catch heck for this. If a tick has just attached it is not buried all that deep in the skin. I light a match and blow it out, touch the hot sulpherous head to the tick for a split second and the little bugger lets go. Grad and follow through with a burning match, watch it squirm and enjoy the feelings of satisfaction coursing through you.

Do NOT do this unless your dog will lie still and DO NOT!!!!! do this if it is close to a sensitive area like the eyes or anywhere near the face or genitals.

I've done that too, Ash . My dogs ( and we ! ) had terrible ticks when we lived in the woods and before the treatments came out. Too many times, I found them after they were gorged ! ( on dogs ...not us! )

If you''re a smoker you can do it with a lit cigarette too.

I once heard something about smothering them in oil and they begin to suffocate so they''ll come out??? Anybody heard or know anything about this method?

I use frontline on the dogs but still find 1or2 ticks after a visit to the woods.I usually go more to beach and lakes in summer but can`t just now coz of the hazards I mentioned.Anyhow the temperature here in Holland has dropped conciderably the last few days so hopfully the ticks should be fewer and maybe the poisonous algy will go too.
Pulled it out earlier and feel normal,it was attached for 15-16 hours and was black, not like the orange colored ones I usually remove from the dogs.

Putting rubbing alcohol should make it start to release too..so that the head can't get stuck.

OMG I almost didnt read this thread b/c I am utterly and totally disgusted by ticks. Its my phobia, and the only one that I truly am totally disgusted w/. Ive seen them on animals before, never on Katie thank god, but they are revolting. Kudos to anyone here who has actually had one of those blood sucking creatures on your body and lived to tell about it. ewwwwwwww
