Tick got my dog! He is on Frontline! Why?

I don't really like Frontline. My boss likes to swear by it, but I haven't really seen anything good come of it. I say put them all on Revolution, Sentinel, or Interceptor and problem solved. I love all of these products. Some people I am sure will feel differently, but I personally like them. Revolution especially. It is what my little ones are on(Roxy Mae and Oreo.)
My other Chihuahua Xena was on Revolution as a puppy, but then I switched her to Frontline because my vet said it was better and safer. I read some comparative study on all existing flea and tick medication and Frontline seemed to have the least side effects.
And they are both, Beasley and Xena, on Interseptor against heartworm, but it doesn't work for ticks and I'm in a tick saturated area. I thought they were protected on Frontline, but apparently they are not...

No, I haven't. But my friend in New Orleans did try Advantix or Advantage (I'm not sure which) for fleas and his Chihuahua was infested with them. It's just that I hear all this horrow stories about dogs having horrible reactionst to flea and tick meds and my dog never got a reaction to Frontline so I stuck with it. I jjust didn't want to risk anything else if this one was working. Well, apparently it's not working since it's a second time tick got one of my dogs while on Frontline... In all fairness, I must say, last summer when Xena got bit, she didn't get sick. This time, it just happened yesterday, so I don't know if we are out of the woods yet, but Beasley seems ok today. So, maybe it is working? No?
I use frontline plus myself, works great. How it works is after the tick attaches it dies within 48 hours with the frontline, the tick you found probably just got attached. Frontline doesn't prevent ticks from attaching, they just kill off the ticks once they attach. We have tons and tons of ticks here in New Jersey, I picked off 14 from my munchkin once!! I also have him on lyme shots because of the ticks. Hoped this was helpful to you! 
W/ these product you can still get a tick or two on them but they should die w/in 24 hrs. They don't have to bite them to die but it could have just jumped on and not died yet.
I use the frontline spray and haven't had any problems. We are moving to a more wooded area so I guess we'll have to wait and see.

just as long as you're aware of the statistics for adverse reactions (including deaths) for these products.
revolution is one thing i would not recommend at all, especially not for small breed dogs.

I don't use any poison on my dogs. I do manual check overs each night for ticks, and my dogs are very healthy and we do not and have never suffered from flea problems
We have had quite a few dogs in the boarding kennel on these poison's year round and their health suffers long term from them. Also, we have a few dogs which are now getting fleas even though they are on Advantage or the other products...the fleas eventually build up immunity to these products.

I just worry too much about lyme disease, worms and other diseases. Using something to keep the fleas and ticks away (for me) greatly out ways the alternative. All meds have their good and possible bad sides. I try to use the safest and least harmful, for me that seems to be Frontline, although I do think that advantix is a bit better but my vet doesn't carry it in the smallest dose (I have 2 chis). Plus the frontline spay is the easiest to use on them.

I only use Frontline during summer months and only on my dogs. If there were a safer alternative I would use it.
I do manual inspection on my dogs for ticks but you cant catch a flea before it lays a million eggs, unfrotunately.
Come to think of it it was towards the end of the month but not after 30 days yet on Frontline. Maybe it's less effective at the end of the month?
I think I'll stick with Frontline for now as it is effective on fleas and my dogs don't seem to have any obvious adverse reaction to it. As for ticks, I just have to check them more often.

If price has anything to do w/ it frontline has a spray and it is 2-3 pumps per pound of dog. I got disposible plastic gloves and spray and rub it in and they are done. I have 2 chi and it seems so much easier and much less evpensive. The whole bottle was more than $15+ less than the tubes and I got it last yr (we only had 1 chi then) but now we have 2 and we should have enough for this summer plus. Since my girls are almost 8 lbs and 4.8 (and gaining) sometimes the vet didn't have it in a smal nough dose and told me to give them half, well I read the pamplete and you really aren't supposed to do that. Plus they are so far away from the weight limit I just worried that it was too strong. W/ the spray I know they are getting the right amount b/c I can give them just enough for their weight. Just wanted you to know about the product most vets don't tell you about it. I had work at one and no one bought it until a woman from CA came in and she used it.
I know! Once, when I wanted to buy Frontline at the vet's and they didn;'t have the right kind for small dags, they suggested I got the one for larger dogs and used half! How do I know I'm putting exactly half and not more or less? That just scared me... And made me question if I ever wanted to see that vet ever again..
Where do you buy the spray? My friend in Russia uses it on her yorkie but I've never seen it sold in the US. I thought it wasn't available in the US.
