My dog has a thyroid problem that we got tested at the vet. The vet gave him levothyroxine. He hasn't been to his month check up yet but I was wondering how long it took to see changes in other dogs? He has really dry skin but I was hoping it would improve after we found the thyroid problem. Now I'm beiginning to think its just a dobie trait.

His coat condition may have as much to do with diet as it does his thyroid imbalance. If he's already on a premium diet, then give the meds a few months to show signs of health improvement, on the outside. (Your check up now, at 1+ month, should show normal thyroid level now, but other things can take awhile to clear up.)

This is probably not very helpful....(dogs and humans anatomy probably works very differently) but when I started taking thyroxine tablets, I felt the effects in myself within about half an hour! and the weight started dropping off me within a couple of weeks but my skin and hair took a few months to sort themselves out.

He is on Canidae dry and wet food. Which we switched to about a month and half ago. He is actually on the skinny side but has dry skin and loss of hair. He is only 2 so I figure he'll fill out as he grows up. I'm just frustrated because I just want him to be healthy.

If it is a mild case it Might be best to not use the drugs for now. Sierra was given it by a "Pill Pusher" vet and after we started having problems we switched. So far she is doing much better.
