Throwing your own garage/yard sale...

So... this summer I am going to throw my first yard sale. I have so much stuff that is just filling the garage from floor to ceiling and I need to get rid of it all. I'm gonna have a ton of baby stuff that I don't need any more. I also have a ton of pre-pregnancy clothes that I cant fit into anymore no matter how hard I try, lol.

I am confused about pricing things. I dont even know where to start. Maybe someone can give me pointers. How much would you price a Fisher Price cradle baby swing that was originally $150. What about $34 Bumbo seat. Or little baby onesies (sp?). A $20 baby bath tub. Or $29 jeans. Or $9-$15 shirts.

Anyone else throw yard or garage sales? How did it go? I need advice on pricing...

You really might do better with the baby stuff at " Once Upon A Time " or E-Bay . News paper advertising is expensive . People at yard sales want CHEAP!!!

Yeah if you are gonna go yard sale you have to lower clothes to a dollar or less and other items usually ten bucks max unless they are BIG items.

BUT if you are ever planning on having a second child I would keep the clothes you have now just in case :D

For clothing, I'd do bags of baby clothing, sealed, clearly labeled and priced. Nothing worse than having to dig through stuff trying to find the right size, with everything mixed up.

Price wise, look on some online classifieds for what you're selling...:)

We've had a couple.

make sure you prepare your float early and whatever time you put in the ad 'don't call before 8am' for example, expect people to be knocking by 7am at the latest.

Yep, if you don't price it low enough you will have to keep it :( So some of your bigger items you might do better to sell them a different way.

When I have a garage sale I have it with the intention of wanting RID of the stuff, not necessarily to make money.

You can't consider that you paid 30 bucks for the jeans, it won't make a fig difference at a yardsale, hopefully you have already gotten your money out of them, LOL. I personally won't pay more than 2-3 dollars for jeans at a yardsale and I don't care what brand they are. And for me to go the 2-3 they must be in good shape too!

My best advice is that if you truly want rid of the stuff to be out of your way then price it to move, if you DON'T then perhaps look for a consignment shop or something.

My neighbor sold lots of baby stuff and made sure to put that on her sign.

A new mom came buy and asked her how much she wanted for all the clothes since she's just starting out. Maybe make a sign $___ each or take it all for $___ .

Thanks for the advice.

Ebay sounds like a good idea for the bigger stuff. I bought most of my jeans about 6 months before I got prego, so they didn't last long. Oh well.

I'd say eBay or Craigslist at least for the bigger stuff. Or run most of it on there first and what's left get rid of in a yard sale, or even set up at a flea market if there's one in your area. In some ways a flea market is a lot easier. You don't have people knocking on your door at the wee hours of the morning, trying to get a jump on everyone else, and you don't have people pawing around on your property, trying to get into areas they shouldn't be in, asking if stuff is for sale that isn't, and you don't have lowlifes taking advantage of you being distracted to steal your stuff - or case your home for coming back later when you aren't there.

Not to mention driving Reggin crazy, exposing her to APBT haters, or even some of the lowest forms of life checking her out to come back and take her.

Good idea. There is a flea market right down the street.

Reggin is a boy actually, hehe. :)
