Good luck. It's scary to be in situations like that and worry about what will happen next. Hopefully your mom can find a better job. Pay rate is going to be different depending on the area you live in... Worth a shot for her to look around though and try to find something that pays better.

Oh man. I would put an ad out for your rental right away. You have 30 days to fill it and you could even up the rent. Tell your sister to get a job as a waitress, like grammy mentioned. They shouldn't care that she's leaving, most restaurants are used to having more help in the summer anyway with kids off school.

That is very scary. Your mom needs to go to the local wellfair office to get some help from the state. I am sure she could qualify for food stamps. Section 8 if that even exists where you live.

I used to get death benefits from my father who passed away when I was two years old. I was supposed to get it after 18 years old if I was still going to school, but they wrongfully stopped it early even though I was still going to high school. Several months later, to my surprise, I found $6,000 deposited into my bank account from social security. They owed it.

Why did your check stop? Did you graduate or drop out of school? I'm not sure your situation. Dont answer if its too personal.

I hope things workout for you. :(

have your sister apply at home depot or something like that. I just got hired at $12 an hour and they know that I'm leaving in early august to go back to school. They just need summer help due to the increased load from it being summer and needing to stock/sell more garden stuff.

Thank you everybody :)

Your 8 year old sister will qualify for some kind of food stamps and possibly some other stuff.
Even if she is getting child support from her Dad (different then mine, still alive)? It's really crappy though, less than a hundred dollars a month.

As a single mother, she probably is also eligible for some good training/education aid that will not only get her trained for a better paying job, but even help with some living expenses in the meantime.
The hospital she works for will actually pay for some of her training as long as she signs a contract to work for them, and she's been printing job information out from the OOH. But honestly, I'm not sure if she'd be able to go back to school, she's not very intelligent or driven.

That being said...what is your mother doing now?
She's a cleaning lady at the hospital. She's currently waiting for the next class to be offered to get certified as a nursing assistant though. She also does 1-to-1 on her nights off, where you sit with a patient who needs someone to watch them at all times.

One reason she doesn't want to leave here is because we get good health care through it, and it covers a lot. Most of the other jobs she looked into didn't offer health care.

I'll definitally tell her about the utility company thing, I never thought about that.

My little sister told her friends next door that the tenants were moving out, and aparently one of the couples who lives next door is interested in the apartment, but they aren't exactly reliable people...

As far as my older sister goes, she has filled out a bunch of applications since she came home from college, but really hasn't gotten anywhere even with her waitressing experience.

Why did your check stop?
The checks stop as soon as we graduate from high school, I graduate Friday.

I don't know where you live... but she might check with local Police Departments. Their Dispatcher Jobs pay usually very well... and I think most just require a High School Diploma and will train... Good luck... to you and kudos to you for helping your family out. (((((HUGS))))

Yeah, better paying job would definitely help.

I still think she could qualify for food stamps. My mom has for many years, and my mom gets a few hundred dollar child support check for my sister.
