I just have to chime in here... I have seen some threads similar to this one, where someone has chosen their dogs over their family and really, I don't see a problem with it. What is that one thing we all just love about our dogs? The unconditional love that they give, right?
:hail::hail::hail:

For those of you who kept chiming in with "they're close/only fifteen minutes away," I would like to re-iterate that Amber means fifteen minutes by car. Not walking. And she does not have a car, so no, it's actually not that easy for her to go spend some time with them on Christmas day - she has to do it their way. /end grumpy rant

can you take a cab back?
^^^ What I was thinking as well.

Skittle, don't know what's available in your town ... but if there's even one cab company they WILL be open Christmas day. Cab companies really clean up on holidays!!

Not sure it's a good idea to toss-the-ball-into-the-other-court by asking someone at your Grandpa's ahead of time if they would be willing to bring you back earlier. Sounds good, but it's dicey. They may agree at the outset because they want you to come, but when time comes that you want to go home it could turn into "Well, just wait until after dessert", etc.. It still leaves you at the mercy of someone else and what they want to do.

A cab wouldn't though ... YOU would have total control of when you go home. Cabs are a lot less expensive then people think, I have used them for rides to airports at times when no one was available for a ride, 'cause I don't want to leave my car in long-term parking at airports.

Amber means fifteen minutes by car. Not walking.
Good point! Fifteen minutes by car translates into a heck of a long walk, especially considering it is winter.
But if there's a cab available ...

Alrighty. I sort of compromised. I told my Grandpa that I can come, but can't stay long because Bamm is my family too and he's always there for me (unlike most of my human family) and he deserves to spend some Christmas time outside of his crate and with me. I did also mention that I'm making this exception this time, but from now on where I go Bamm goes... if they have a problem with it then tough. I'm sorry if anyone disagrees with me, but that's the way it is. And like was stated, "not all families are bundles of roses" and most of my family prove that point. If they want me around then they'll make exceptions so that I can come around. Where I go, so does Bamm...

Good for you, Amber :) Trust me, if my family wasn't next door (WTF was I thinking, anyway?) I wouldn't be bothering with visiting on Christmas. Or pretty much any other day.
