When I lived in Florida, people all the time would see a husky or a malamute, and sort of wrinkle their noses and go "I can't believe someone would have one of those here, it is WAY TOO HOT for them!". I just don't get it. I mean...I get it...but I don't really consider temperature a factor in selecting a dog breed.
I kind of worry about having some heavy coated breeds out here. The Great Pyr I see walking around here is usually so dignified, with her head up and all, but sometimes I've seen her walking or passed her yard in the summer and the poor thing is bent down and panting like her head is going to fall off. My friend also had a husky mix who would do nothing except lie on the air vent, and this was a very, very active dog. To see her like that was pathetic. It's not so much that I think they shouldn't be here at all, but if I had a husky I think I'd at least invest in a cooling vest and a wading pool when it hits over 110 degrees!

I live in Texas and have a Husky, we frequent the lake and a heavily treed dog park frequently. He is a happy dog, far from miserable and trust me it gets extremely hot here too.

I'd have to say the biggest thing for me is the obesity thing, I see fat dogs all the time and it makes me want to smack the owners.

Also, my dobermans ears are not cropped so I usually get the "Awww she's so cute" until they find out she's a dobe.
