I finally got the nerve to look under the bed this morning... More feathers. I wondered why there was a trail of them throughtout the house lastnight when I got home. I guess everytime Maggie would come out from under the bed she would drag some with her. So I had to grab the trusty vaccum and
and put it back into suction mode. Finally, all feathers are gone.

He is a little devil. But, a sweet little devil. He is ACD, and apparently some BC thrown in there. So he is an ABCD dog.
So, between Brutus and Spike, you have OCD and ACD . . . Obsessive Compulsive Dog and Absolute Compulsive Dog :D

Dena, it was a mess, trust me a few curse words were spoken while I was vacuuming. I had to change vaccum bags there were so many. I never realized how many feathers it took to make a pillow...

Oh, Jess look at this...is he not adorable? http://search.petfinder.com/petnote/displaypet.cgi?petid=6424896

Probably not what your looking for, but gosh that is so tempting. If I could find spike a home, I might consider it.
I just sent the foster person this e-mail:

I just read your description of Kane, and thought you might like some input from the owner of Filas.

For a Fila, being an "only dog" not only isn't necessary, it's not good. Filas - in contrast to so many of the Mastiffs - are remarkably affable with other dogs and are happiest in a home with another dog. They are truly family oriented creatures. They tend to be obsessive, and having another dog - or two or more, lol - in the family definitely makes life much easier for all . . . and it's so amazing and enjoyable to watch how gentle these great creatures are with smaller, weaker creatures.

They are also dogs who NEED to be with their people. These are not dogs who can live in the yard, or be kenneled without a significant amount of inside time with the family.

I hope Kane finds a wonderful home full of love and laughter. The Brazilians have an old, old saying, "faithful as a Fila," and it is demonstrably true.
They really have no idea . . . thinking that he needs to be an only dog . . . we sure know better than that, lol!

Renne, that is so strange you did that. I was thinking about that before I went to bed. I have noticed he is not the only one. If you read all of the Filas on petfinder, almost everyone suggests "only dog in the house".

I don't understand why they have this impression of Filas? These are very sociable dogs, they live for their family as well as the adoration of other pets in the household.

They do not realize how many good homes they are keeping these Filas from going to?

After Jess' problem and now seeing this, I am really wondering about these rescue places. Are they really doing these homleless dog a favor or keeping them in foster care way tooooo long because of the lack of breed knowledge?

As we've learned by Jess' experience, these rescues aren't necessarily always "rescues!" Too often they're just ego trips. And not a whole lot of knowledge, it seems.

The rescue world needs more people like our Brattina!

Something needs to be done. I think I will email Fila rescue, and ask them why every Fila...including theirs, are only dog in household.

I also wonder why they are asking 800.00 for a rescue? Doesn't that seem high?

And all the other Fila owners, that have more than one.

If the rescue orgs. could see how Maggie and Spike run over Brutus they would change their minds.

Speaking of McKinley, I need to go get her. I can tell Brutus is missing her. He is dragging out her stuffed animals and had a couple of her shirts pulled down from her dresser and was lying on them. He is also posting himself in front of her room. He needs a Kinley fix. lol

I do wish people would understand this breed better. It really saddens me that even the rescue orgs. won't take the time read and familiarize themselves with the breed characteristics. They seem to stop at the guradianship side, and forget the rest.
