Hello, have posted on here before about my 8month old Westie, Theo....

I have a few health concerns...

1. After he has water sometimes or something to eat, he hacks and brings up some clear fluid.

2. He has been having bad poos recently... well formed and smelly as a normal dog should, but i dunno I think he is blocked up or something, as I have just gone out and he had a long turd hanging from his bum which he couldnt seem to get off... It was very thick and hard stuff...

1. He could have just eaten too quickly or swallowed wrong

2. Try putting a spoonful of canned pumpkin (just plain pumpkin, not the pie mix with spices) in his food and see if that helps things any. What food is he on right now anyway? How much and how often do you feed him?

Well. I am a bit peeved off with my family on this one...

I will admit, he has tidbits, like scraps of chicken sometimes and sometimes the occaisonal buscuit.

However, I had him on Purina, but my mum and dad convinced themselves that he didnt like them no more and are now feeding him on Ceaser and stuff...

It really irritates me that he is not on a stable food source, I buy JamesWellbeloved Kibble and they just leave it outside...

He is being fed once in the morning and maybe a little to eat at dinner and a little later on....

I am self admitting that I am not the model dog owner, Theo is my first dog, and well, I am still learning...

Dont get me wrong, He is a lovely dog, very friendly, loving and he is a very trusty companion, I feel I have done quite well with his behavioural side of things...

But its just the food thing, and his crap being a bit bad of recent..

Everyone's got to start somewhere. Learning is good! Learning is much better than saying "He's doing well enough and that's that."

Purina and Ceasar really are not the best foods, full of questionable meat sources and tons of grains, dyes and fillers. I've never heard of James Wellbeloved Kibble so I can't comment on that. If you can afford it, try switching his food to something better like Canidae, Royal Canin or Solid Gold. Eagle Pack and Innova are the top of the line but can be hard to find and a bit pricy for most people. Some table scraps are okay and can actually balance out a diet some, but they have to be healthy non-carb scraps. Vegetables and meat are good, biscuits not so much. Hopefully Mordy will see your thread, she's the resident expert when it comes to dog food and dog diets.

Also, break your dog's feeding schedual into two equal amounts, once in the morning, once at night and see if that makes a difference.
