It's so funny when you meet a couple or family that has a dog and it's painstakingly obvious who trained the dog! :p

I met this couple with a husky/shepherd/?? mix while they where out on a walk. The dog was actually well trained! Only problem is it was only well trained for one person :p lol

The husband tried telling the dog to sit and the dog just kept bouncing around not paying attention. So he handed him off to the wife, again, no success. LOL I at this point was ready to go, but they insisted on showing me their dogs cute new trick, so the daughter, about 16 or so, took the leash and told the dog sit just once in a very clear tone, but not loud or harsh. The dogs bum was immediately on the ground and eyes glued to the girl. LOL

She went on to show all the tricks the father/mother made her show. It's funny how the father was the one telling me "Oh yeah our dog is very well trained and VERY smart! He knows a ton of tricks!" Then says something along the lines of "Hey show her so-and-so trick" and the daughter did. It's funny how he's gloating about something he obviously didn't work on with the dog and took all the compliments himself.

LOL, Lizzie's the same way. :p She'll listen to me and no one else.

Actually, I'm okay with that.

LOL, Duke is like that too ^^ Sure he'll listen to my mom or dad once in a while but he wont do tricks or settle down quickly for them.

Luckly my parents like to gloat about how much time I put into training him not how well he acts for them.

Hahahhahaha..........leave out the husky/shepherd mix and I would SWEAR that you, me, and my husband had met ;)

Yep, I do any training that gets done here, but that doesn't stop Kevin from being proud of all OUR work ;)

Sounds familiar. Only my 2, even though I do the training, will listen to my 4 year old daughter. She says "sit" and 2 butts hit the floor. My husband says sit and they are like "what you say? Were you talking to me?"

Sarama will sit for my fiance, and usually come . . . and that's IT. Well, actually, she'll fetch for him to, and better than she does for me  But anything else, and she knows like 15 commands by now, she will do only for me.

our lot can be difficult, sometimes its so difficult to get Harry to do as I say if mums around. So it just turns into "_____get your dog!" I've been doing more one on one training with him but he's glued to mum.

Then when we have to put them in the garage when we go out, my mum and sister are calling and calling and calling Buster to get in the garage, but he runs to me. I say "go on" and he bolts in lol.

Not ideal but as long as they listen to someone.

There was also a family in my last town. They had this gorgeous black dog, we asked them what it was they said "I don't know, they said it was a fila cross but we don't know what that is" I didn't know what a fila was then but after what I know now taking on a fila or a filaX and not knowing what to expect seems like a very stupid thing to do.
Anywya, it was a gorgeous pup, but I saw it all grown up. The husband could walk it easily but it was a bit skittish once it was grown up, it was being walked by the wife one day, freaked out at the road and pulled her over....

hahahaha!!! That sounds exactly like this household! My parents will have friends over and every single one of them want to meet the dogs so I'll bring them out and then immediately my parents will start boasting about how "smart" OC is along with his good looks >_> immediately after it's "hey Ren, hey, show them *insert trick*". They can't show them on their own cause the dogs have zero respect for them and therefore wont listen to them well, if at all. There is only *one* trick OC will do for my mum but it takes her saying the command about 15 times (and on the 15th time I usually just end up secretly giving him a hand cue for it). LOL

That's kind of the way it is in our house too. I train the dogs. DH does all sorts of things that are kind of counter-productive to them listening to him. They most definitely work better for me than him, especially Marlowe.

I do 99% of the training in our household as well. Although I will give my SO kudos for teaching Zip to fetch the ball the week I was out of town visiting my parents. ;) He was lukewarm on the whole fetching thing and my SO was sooo proud of himself when I got home!!

Even though I do all the training my guys will listen to my SO most of the time. I am glad they do, god forbid I am not home and the dogs get out of the house, I know they would come when he calls them.

I also think both jacks would run agility with my SO, even though he doesn't know any handling what so ever, I know they would "try" and decipher his commands :lol-sign:

I tried to really instill in my dogs that they must listen to a command no matter who gives it.

I figure if my dog ever escaped, I would want someone to be able to call him as opposed to him being run over by a car.

Of course, if there are multiple people my dogs will always do what I say as apposed to anyone else but if I am not there they would most likely do what other people say. I think it depends on the person too. My dogs don't listen to my brother at all, but that's because my brother isn't commanding nor has that 'listen to me' air about him. I really think dogs pick up on someone who means business (and knows what they are doing) and someone who doesn't.

Just my 0.02

Lucas would listen to some people, mainly children and elderly people. I think he knew it would cheer them up and maybe get him some snacks :p Adults he would kinda look at me for the OK, but otherwise not listen.

I just think it's funny how well you can tell who trained the dogs! :p

Ilsa will only listen to me, but Ronin will do anything for anyone... he's an obedience floozy! Ada... well, she really only listens half the time - she's having too much fun to obey either of us!

I don't mind that Buster only listens to us, I like that I don't have to worry about him wandering off with a stranger because they call him.

I do see yor point though Tucker

I trained Saffie and Boy, but they listen to my boyfriend too, outside, most of the time.
But Saffie only does her freestyle tricks when I ask her, she doesn't understand if someone else asks her to turn, weave or jump. I guess that's because the body language is different.
