We've had threads before about people misidentifying your dog's breed. Granted, a lot of them are somewhat understandable....like the people who see Zeus' coloring and think he's a small great dane. But have you ever had someone call your dog such an off-the-wall breed (or animal) that it makes you do a double take?

Mine doesn't even involve a dog. I took my ferret, Trunks, down to the mailbox on the corner. One of the neighbors was outside watering her lawn. She saw me and asked, "Oh! Is that one of those long-haired chihuahuas?"

ROFL! I thought I was going to burst a lung trying to hold in my laughter!

There is a dog in our local shelter that is being labeled as a Chow Chow (sans the mix part). It is a thick dog with brindle patches. I'm still not sure where they came up with it.

When I took Charlie to the spay/neuter clinic to get neutered, the vet tech was filling out the forms and said "and he's a....collie?" I about fell over. I was thinking AND YOU'RE A VET TECH?????? I was kind of scared to let them neuter him after that.

Sawyer has been called a border collie more times than I can count, a brittany once or twice and this guy at the apartment complex is just insisting that he's an ACD.

I'd have to look it up again, but he's been called something completely off the wall before...I just can't remember what.

EDIT: Found the thread...someone called him an IRISH SETTER once.

.. Riot hasn't gotten anything really 'out of the blue".. yet lol

He has been labelled a "Sheltie mix" though..

I'm really not sure what they wouldn't have said Collie thuogh haha!

Riots not that short at 25" at the shoulder lol

Tyr has been called a wolf before though lol We were walking him into the vet clinic to get his ear checked and get meds for him(ear infection) and a couple were walking out of the clinic and jumped back against the doors and under their breath you could hear them say "omg look at the wolf" lol

I guess it IS possible that he has wolf WAY back in his lines being an Alaskan Husky.. but still lol

Princess has been called a White GSD before as well.. but she has a Lab body, Lab personality, Lab head lol I dont see ANY GSD in her.. hehe

Someone asked me if Izzy and Frodo were pomeranians...eh....no.

I have had a few people ask me if Frodo was a fox, especially if they only see his face and not his bitty legs and lack of tail.

Someone once asked me if Gypsy was a dalmatian. I nearly peed my pants, I was laughing so hard. It was even more funny because she was playing with my boyfriends parents dog. An actual purebred dalmatian!

When Sage was a puppy some guy came up and asked if she was a pitt puppy. I had to giggle for a minute and then ask him "Think about the complete opposite of a pittbull and that's what she is."

My old APBT, Deuce was black and white spotted, so I could understand why a toddler once said- "Oh, Look, a mini-cow" He was more on the money than the many people who inquired if he was a Dalmatian. I mean we're talking big spots, like on a Holstein, and a big head like a block, and rose ears. What kind of dalmatian is that? I don't even think the puppy millers have screwed it up that bad!

I've only had one person ask me if Kassie was a Shih Tzu mix before. But to be fair I think it's only because she had a full face.
See! monkey face. :p

As for Boomer and Tilly, they never were misidentified for another breed. Though Boomer has been for his gender. A boy thought poodles only came in as one gender, females, and was shocked to know that my BooBoo was a male. hehe!

I've been asked quite a few times if Thunder is a Husky or Collie mix. One day a guy asked me what kind of dog Thunder is... I told him "German Shepherd" and he started ranting in a very loud voice, "No way is that a German Shepherd, I have two and they're much bigger and they're a different color and there's absolutely no way that dog is a German Shepherd!". I just walked away from him.

ETA: I was once asked if Sammy is a Dalmatian, but to be fair it was a child that asked.
