Or maybe not depending on the accuracy of these things, I guess we'll see lol. I got a dog DNA test for Christmas so Tucker's swabs are going out in the mail today. I do hope it comes back with more than just chihuahua, I already know that part!

So, what do you think it'll be?

Without looking at the relatives, I'd put money on some spaniel. Since it's a DNA test, it will probably come back Springer or something.

And probably some Tibetan mastiff.

Yeah, spaniel has always been a popular guess, though I can never pinpoint a specific spaniel he looks like, it's just the coat I think!

And Tibetan Mastiff is a given, where do you think he got his golden-red color?

Chihuahua/Pug with some Pomeranian or something like a Japanese Chin/English Toy Spaniel/Tibetan Spaniel?

The coat, but also the face just looks kind of spaniel-y to me. If they weren't so uncommon, I'd think Tibetan Spaniel.

Yah. Kind of makes me wonder if the dad was like a Chi/Chin mix or something and just had a smooth coat cs long, but that coat showed up in the pups? Don't even know if that's possible. Lol

Pom is another one we hear a lot from people trying to guess. There is a pom mix at work that looks a lot like him, just pointy-er with a more dense coat. Tucker's features are a lot softer/rounder I guess (more so than his brother's even), which could be spaniel influence.

I don't see any pug in him but I could see it in dad. Tucker does look a lot like the Tibetan spaniels. I've never seen one or known anyone who owns one so I do suppose they're pretty rare. Tuck is from TN, not sure what is common down there.

What do you think about mom's tail being curly? Does that indicate a specific breed or does it crop up fairly often in mutts?

What makes you think bichon, Annabell?

My uncle has always felt very strongly that he has papillon in him, there are certainly similarities.

lol I know someone who has a dog that looks similar to Tucker that came back as bichon. You never know! I looked up photos of shaved bichons (eww), but I could maybe see it in his face.

The swabs finally arrived at the lab 3 days ago. I'm a little concerned it took them 9 days to get them though. I've been reading that most of the really strange results you get are likely due to contamination to the DNA and I worry that spending that long in the mail might cause that. I'm also a little concerned, after reading more about contamination issues, that I wasn't careful enough. I waited 2 hours after he ate to swab him but like, JUST 2 hours. I was excited lol. If he comes back as a catahoula/old english sheepdog I want some new swabs :p

Results are in! He is a whole lot of chihuahua and..... MIN PIN!! At least I know why he's so darn loud. Unfortunately one of his grandparents came back as a total mix, so there is still some mystery there. I'm going to guess mom has the min pin going on.

What were their speculations on the mixed-breed portions?

I've always found these pretty cool. Venice's was a little odd, I just assume because she is so muttly her DNA is beyond scrambled.

I'm really glad I got the test kit, it was fun! For the mixed breed portions they said there was most likely toy group, terrier, and/or guardian breed. What they consider to be in each of these groups is a little wonky though (they list chihuahuas in the terrier group and AmStaffs in the guardian group for example). Here is exactly what it says:

Which test kit did you use? Some day I want to do Charlie and Ollie if I found some that aren't going to break the bank. Ollie is it least known part shih-tzu.

I used wisdom panel, it's what I've heard the most good things about. Luckily I didn't have to pay for it, it was a Christmas gift. I had wanted to try it for a while but couldn't bring myself to spend the money.
