I don't think I am far off from the first one. I extended the back legs more and I think the body is more realistic. WIthout being able to look at the first one I wasn't far off. I will have to one day compare the pics side by side. Either way one of them will be a go for the top. The dog should fire up the color of the beige bird at the bottom. They are made out of the same clay mix. I had hoped for a yellow lab color and I was pleased as punch when this one came out of the kiln this morning. i guessed right.

I sure don't want to do it again. It is a relief to go back to birds for awhile. That was hard.

oh I didn't think it was possible--but I think I like this one even more--such expression on the face!

I made a little platform with a peg in the middle for it to set on so there will be no tipping over and the back feet won't touch the shelf so they will not have a different color than the body. It is subtle but I don't like that. I didn't make it high enough so i am going to make a platform for the platform. If I ever do this again (and I already want to) there are sooooo many things I would do differently. Prepping the bases to support not flat pieces first and foremost. Much more planning than this had. It is a miracle it went together at all. I have been told a thousand is too low and it should be 2. We will see what it goes for. The best news is not only is Jo flying up for the auction but my son is going to be able to come in time for the live part of the auction too. Yahoooo the people I most want there. I wish Mom could come but she would never last that long without getting too tired and she has a surgery coming up.

I used that pic Zoom took of mary running as my basic reference of expression.
I didn't quite get it, but I got close. If you made it black and gave it her lovely white mask...sighs. I miss my old Mama. The rest of it may be dedicated to Ann the akita that needed help, but the topper has my Mary's happy blessing. I know she would approve.

Renee, what a great idea.

I love the way the dog looks like it's smiling and so happy!

The tag is less so tiny, smaller than the length of a grain of rice. It was hard enough to make it with magnifying reader glasses.
Thanks all for the feedback. It really helps me.

New dog is in the kiln drying out and I am keeping my paws off of it. i don't think it will be able to go through the gas kiln. so all I will be able to do is repair the first one and tell whoever that buys it there is a replacement and it will be ready after the next kiln firing. I could let it go by firing it to 06 which is as high as my kiln goes, but that is terribly fragile. if it fires to cone ten it is a whole lot more durable and the color would be better. SInce the photo has the blue ball in it and that is what people will be expecting to see this hopefully will be the icing on the cake, and the delay in the final piece will not be an issue. Fingers crossed. I want it to bring in A LOT.

Susan Speck and I discussed that we would both be game for a totem 2 for another year. I know a lot more now than I did before, it would go faster and I can't help but have ideas.

I am so anxious to know how much this goes for--I think it is going to do extremely well! When is the auction?

I set it up the 26th, the auction is the 27th. Jo isn't flying in until the evening of the 26th darn it. I was hoping he would be here to help get it in there. Oh well. sighs.. at least he gets to come to the auction.

Good luck with the auction tomorrow. Hope the dog totem commands a high price and goes to a good home. (And that you'll post some photos of the event.)
