I got Thor from the pound. He was the best dog there, and he and I hit it off from the get go. even the day before, when I first discounted him b/c he was "too mouthy", I think that he knew that we were going to be together. I saw other people walk to his cage, and he didnt get excited. (didnt think about it at the time, but in retrospect, that sounds like a good thing to tell about)

When I got him (about 2 or 3 months old, I think), they told me that he is a lab/pit mix. Since then, I have had MANY questions raised in my mind about that idea. They didnt have any idea b/c he was picked up as a stray, and no-one came to claim him.

When I go anywhere, I have all sorts of people offer so many ideas of what he is. It is really quite amusing, but it doesnt tell me what kind of heritage he has. I dont know why it matters, but i would love to tell people well, he is a mix with at least these two breeds. It will be all guess work anyways, but some things that (I think) make him different:

1) his whiskers. He has whiskers on his cheeks. Maybe 15 on each side. One side of his face has white ones and one has black ones. They look and feel like fishing line.

2) the webbed paws. I dont know if that is common, or not, but his paws are webbed.

3) the eyelashes. He has got eyelashes on each eye that are made of the same hair as the whiskers, but are only 1-3mm long.

4) he has probably 10 or 15 wrinkles on the bottom of his jaw. and a lot of skin. I am starting to think that he may be shar-pei for these wrinkles (and all of the extra skin. and the BIG V of skin around his neck.)

5) his bottom jaw is flat. I have seen a lot of dogs that have a rounder muzzle, but his bottom jaw os flat, and fits inside of his upper jaw.

I will post *more* pics later, after I get some. We are off to battle stupidity at the dog park. Have a great day, ya'll.

About the webbed feet . . . Labs and many water dogs will have webbed feet. Filas even have webbed feet (ATDs - All Terrain Dogs ;) ).

Look around you when you're out and notice what kinds of dogs you see most, especially larger, stronger ones. You can pretty well bet that Thor's sire was a fairly dominant dog, since the stronger, more dominant dogs usually get to take advantage of the chance to procreate.

The loose skin is a protective trait that some breeds have developed. If another dog tries to grab the throat, a dog with loose skin is not only less apt to be severly injured as all the attacking dog gets is skin, but has the advantage of still being able to turn on the attacking dog. You find loose skin in guardians and dogs with backgrounds of hunting large, dangerous prey.

Maybe that will help you get started in your quest :)
