Whenever I do laundry while Tyr's crated, he gets seriously nervous. (His crate is next to the washing machine).

So I started giving him treats while the machine was running. Tonight I was doing laundry and he was in his crate and about half way through the cycle, I realized he wasn't curled up in the corner and trembling and panting. :D So I gave him some treats while the wash finished, but he was totally relaxed about it all.

And to think there are those people who make fun of those of us who know the power of the yummehs. LOL. I'm glad to hear he is no longer afraid of the washer. Way to go!

I keep trying to get this to work with Sawyer and the dishwasher...so far haven't really seen a lot of progress. :( He's not even crated next to it...or ever crated at all. I'm even breaking out the spoonful of peanut butter, which he eats as fast as possible and then goes back to freaking out.

Behold the power! Now I want to see if, with the yummehs, you can teach him to get out of the crate and do the laundry himself!

i have even had a dog before become fearful of the peanut butter. Talk about a backfire.

Nice! Yep, it seem like rewarding a dog when it does what you actually want it to do works very well. It sounds so simple but our dogs seem to like it, so why not!

It's good that he was relaxed about it too. That's when you know it has truly internalized something.

:rofl1: He is the dog that dragged all my clothes - clean and dirty - around my room and mixed them all up with each other.

Morgan however will bring my dirty underwear and socks to the washing machine. :D I should get her a chair so she can drop them in the machine.

Yup! I was actually pretty surprised.

Yes, hooray for yummehs! I did this with Sienna and fireworks. Pretty quickly fireworks had her running to the fridge for some hot dogs!

the worst are the people who SEE the power of yummehs...and reject it because they "don't think they should have to use treats to solve the problem"

I wonder... are you just giving him the treats/PB when it's on or are you having him do tricks? If you're not, maybe you could have him work for the treats a little to distract him from the noise. I've seen dogs who do that super fast eating thing while they're freaked out and it's like they hardly notice they're eating at all and sometimes they almost seem to get more worked up.
