So I'm about 60 pages into this book and I'm lovin' it. It's a great book and some of it I feel like is common sense and then there's some of it where I'm thinking the author is a fly on our wall and I'm like, "we do THAT!" *smacks forehead*. Already I've made drastic changes in how I speak and act around my dogs and I am carefully observant of what I say and what they do (and what they don't do). It's amazing.

Anyone else read it?

Any other book that someone just *has* to read?

Oooh, more books. :D Now I know what to grab on my next trip to the bookstore. We're going out tomorrow, so then maybe I can ooh and ahh with you!

I'm not even halfway through "The Culture Clash" and I've learned so much. Much more than I have from other books. I've also heard "Don't Shoot the Dog" by Karen Pryor is a must-read, so that's next on my list.

I've tried to read Culture Clash.. twice.. I found it.. *gasp* dry. I know a lot of folks on here like it, but I also know that I am not alone when I say it's dry and I can't get through it. Anyone want to paraphrase it? :p

Don't Shoot the Dog is also on my list. :D But next on my to-read list is Bone Would Rain From the Sky.

I can't possibly disagree with you about dryness--then I would be lying. I do like her tone, though. And the specifics on training techniques. I can't take my cats to dog-training classes, and there aren't any great trainers near me, and I certainly can't afford one on one lessons.. so it's nice to have little things in detail. My kitties are responding MUCH better, and that says a lot. :D

The Other End of the Leash is my absolute favorite dog book. :)

Culture clash is definitely dry. It reads kind of like a series of essays. I really like the information in it, though.

TOEOTL is in my top 5. I just finished Patricia McConnells most recent book "For the love of a dog" and it's a gooder too.

I seriously didn't find Culture Clash dry at all. I couldn't put it down, read passages aloud to dh etc, but I read the old first edition first and I think it's more entertainining. She really changed the tone for the second edition.
I recommend to anyone finding it dry, get the old one from your library. I think it's the most important dog book ever written.

I did find Don't Shoot the dog boring as heck, but know people who loved it-- I think it depends what you know when you read these books. ie How much you already understand about OC.

I read "Bones would rain from the sky this year" and think it's a must read aswell. I was dissappointed with the last couple chapters but the first 3/4 of the book was amazing.

I have that book and it's great! Definitely one of my favorite dog books. It's great and informative and I never found it boring. And I loved learning about her dogs and seeing their pictures.
I tried a lot of her things, most prominently recall-related and I had success.

I'm half way through "The other end of the leash" as well. I absolutely LOVE her writing style.

My next book is "Click to Calm" by Emma Parsons

I have heard a lot about this book but never read it. I plan on doing so soon though.
