I am horribly bored (I really need to start job searching...), so I thought this would be a fun topic. The idea was triggered by the lovely bath I had to give Abrams' mud covered self...I'm still procrastinating cleaning out the now mud caked tub.

What is the most vile, disgusting, gag inducing substance that your dog has ever rolled in?

Or, if you have a good dog (or are a diligent owner) and you haven't had the pleasure of bathing a putrid dog, what is the worse mess your dog has ever made that you've had to clean up after?

Abrams' mud play aside, I think the worst thing I've ever had to wash off of a dog was when Rose was still alive. I don't know WHAT she rolled in, but I had to make her walk home down wind because when I smelled her I almost puked. She was covered in a greyish yellow slime and she STUNK. I bathed her three times outside with Dawn and it turned the stench into something that was barely tolerable versus vomit inducing. It took forever (I'm thinking a week) for her to be non-stinky; and she was an outdoor dog that had all day to air out.

With my current dogs, Abrams is a mud and sand magnet (which at least doesn't stink, unless you count a mild swamp smell) and Cynder likes to find dried animal scat to roll on (which stinks, but at least isn't messy).

As for messes, there are two notable instances that come to mind.

The first was with Chloe, who got loose outside and made a beeline for the burn pit. She helped herself to cat poop covered in ashes...and then promptly vomited it all over my mother's new carpet. That was fun. The smell was almost worse than the stain was.

The second was Cynder. Her's wasn't so much as bad, as just horrible timing. Michael and I's wedding night, we got home and I instructed him to entertain Abrams in the front room while I shimmied into something nice. He was on the floor playing with Abrams and Cynder jumped up onto the couch...to promptly regurge all over his back, his pants, the floor, and the couch cushion. So we spent our wedding night cleaning up dog vomit and shampooing the carpet and couch. LOL

What are your stories? I'm sure there are some good ones!

Bena (foster) stepped\laid\rolled in her own waste. Not much worse than coming home to not only dog crap everywhere but the dog covered in it. She really had no aversion to poop. It was very annoying. Gwen is pretty good except when she twirls to poop and accidentally steps in it.

I can't handle vomit and messy poops. SO has to clean it or I wait for it to dry. I just can't handle it. Gwen got sick in my bedroom (diarrhea and vomit) and I had to open the windows and stay out of the bedroom for two days.

Having to drive home a slimy fish covered dog is the worst. Windows down and I gagged all the way home. She had to have three baths.

Summer has rolled in gross stuff too. She's always picking hugs I can't identify. Last week she got some goose poop. She's so innocent though I can never get mad. Lol

Watson doesn't roll in gross things, he just eats them.

He does love to roll on carpet and grass, but usually picks clean spots to save the delicious wild animal droppings for a snack.

Oz also frequently comes inside reeking of something disgusting. If it smells bad, he's rolled in it. Cobain doesn't like to get dirty, and Rigby doesn't roll. Ruby hasn't rolled in anything gross yet *knocks on wood.*

As for clean up: Cobain caught a squirrel out in the yard and left it. Oz thought it would be a good idea to swallow it...whole.
Sure enough a few hours later I had to clean up a pile of vomit that had a face

They have that knack for finding the spots the dead things are in the park! Dragged them off a dead raccoon one year that was the most foul smelling thing! Then had to take them home in the car! I tried rinsing them off in the river which only resulted in me stinking as well!

They found a freshly dead dear another time and came running back to us covered in blood. That was scary more than stinky but still gross.

And dead fish. We live by the lake so there are large fish there and in all the rivers leading to it. All my dogs have had a reliable drop it but the husky. She would roll and then judge how far away you where while she attempted to eat it.

Whatever it was, it was SO decomposed and vile that I never was able to positively identify it. *shudder*
Yep, the worst are usually beyond recognition. Somewhere in that foul limbo between dead and gone.

My dogs have never rolled in gross things. :rofl1: However at a family reunion one of my cousin's dogs rolled in cow poop. It was disgusting and she was a lhasa apso so you can imagine how hard we tried to get it off by bathing her.

A rotting, maggot covered...thing. I'm not totally sure what it was, but it smelled so bad, I nearly puked.

Leo has never rolled in anything gross...ever.

However, I have had to pry a very dead and very much decaying dead squirrel from his mouth....with my bare hand.
I definitely think that counts for this thread. Sooooooo gross

Summit would never dream of rolling in anything, not even mud. He walks around puddles.

Kili has never rolled in anything that I could see. Obviously something smelled interesting, but whenever I go over she's just rolling in grass. And she never comes up with stains. Who knows.
