Two happy things. 1. Did not work today. Instead I spent all day at the AQHA World Show. 2. My aunt had a great run on her young horse and qualified for finals in the Working Cow Horse class. This is her first time qualifying.

Going to go watch finals on Friday! (Missing half of work too, yay!)

Zooreach tomorrow night, wooo! I wasn't originally scheduled for it, but my coworker has class. She was just going to miss class, but turns out there's a test. So I'm covering for her, and I'm SO EXCITED. I did this same one last year as an animal handling assistant. Not sure if I'm doing the same this year or if I'm actually teaching programs, but I'll be happy either way. I'm also unsure of what class/animals I'll have, but I know the crested geckos are on the list, so I'm hoping for that one. I can talk ALL DAY about cresties.

Also, I worked 12 hours today, but it certainly didn't feel like it. And I realized that ever since I left the clinic, my feet have NEVER hurt during/at the end of the day. Partially because I get to do more MOVING instead of standing in one spot. And partially because I've basically been living in my VFFs since I quit, since the zoo lets me wear them to work. It's only just now I'm starting to wear other shoes because of the weather. I have a pair of Coleman hiking boots I got over the summer, and although they're not advertised as minimalist, now that they're broken in they certainly feel that way. I can definitely feel small variations in surfaces through them, and I love it. Sadly I've abused them so they're wearing out quickly (apparently they don't do well being submerged in water regularly, then stuffed into a too-small backpack and left there for 3 days without any real opportunity to dry).

I just decided to do butcherblock countertops in my kitchen instead of laminate.

This will save me almost $200 and will also save me the two weeks it would take to have to order them.

I'll likely have to drive up to Schaumburg to get them... but it's worth it. Also if I did that it means I GET TO GO TO IKEA. WORTH IT EVERY TIME.

ETA: I'm actually excited and happy about something having to do with my house. Holy crap.

I went to the 99 cent only store, because I was on a quest for apples and a bag of Smarties. (the latter to use for potty training rewards..because then one little roll of Smarties lasts for all eternity, and they're small and easy to hand one treat out). I found both, but then also found those tasty new Quaker granola bars with the fruit and almonds. (the soft ones in the clear wrappers). So tasty and will be handy to take to work since I'm all early shifts this week and I starve.
But, soo soo tasty. Must not eat all of the granola.

In other news, the boychild took a late nap, so I'm marathon Call the Midwife-ing
