I think there are alot of wonderful people...strangers...that help anyone. I would offer, and I have been helped. but handing your child to a stranger is something you just don't do....not today, and not years ago.

i've helped people before when they were on the side of the road. but even if they asked me i wouldn't have done what that lady did! i would have made the mom come too.

shouldn't have been the mom distrusting the stranger. with all the twisted people today who could say that someone could have said she kidnapped the kid? ok i know i'm paranoid buuuut someone's got to be lol

Don't get me wrong Debi , even years ago I wouldn't have done it. About 12 years ago I went to the grocery and a mother had pulled up to the entrance , left the car running with 2 small kids in the car and ran into the grocery. I pulled in behind it and watched as that was before the seat belt laws , and the kids were all over the place. She wasn't long, but even a minute would have been too long ! I honked at her and gave her a no-no sign to which I received a middle finger salute !

that's why I said....not now....not years ago. NEVER would I leave my child to a stranger.......there is no perfect world such as that. I also never left my child in a car...not for a second. I could trust the universe...but NOT with my child.

I don't know WHO could let their child get in a car and drive off with a complete stranger! There would be NO WAY Emily would be getting in a car with someone I don't know, I don't care if she is 30! I have a hard time even letting her get in the car alone with her dad, without me, let alone a complete stranger. That woman is SO lucky her little girl wasn't kidnapped because god knows what could happen to the poor girl if she was.

That is very scary!

My little sister had a friend named Silver, and she was 10 years old. Her mother would let her catch the public bus to go to the mall (all by herself). The mall was way accross town.

My parents told Silvers mom that it is very dangerous. All her mom said was... "Its in gods hands".

How ridiculous is that?

I would have went with the lady to take us both to the school and ensured my child got to school safely, then used the school phone, to call a tow truck to have the car towed.

Then I would thank the lady for her trouble. If I had to work, I would call in with the situation.

BUT I smell BS with this lady if she is late to school on a regular basis. I say talk to the mother and find out WHY they have been late to school on such a regular basis, and get to the bottom of it. If it is because of unreliable transportation, then I would suggest having the child ride the school bus to school each day to make sure she's on time.

Find out why, and figure out a solution with you, the childs teacher and the mother, and the child as well.

I think after a conference the mother would get the idea, that no matter how trusting folks may be, that in todays world that wasnt the smartest idea.

Yoko, you aren't paranoid at all, you're SMART! I don't know how many people, men in particular, I have lectured about putting themselves into a position where they are vulnerable to accusations. I've seen too many lives ruined by the scenario you mentioned.

Strange situation but I found out why Audrey is always late. Her teacher says she lives an hour away from the school. She has an older brother that attends school here in the city and has to be at school Im guessing fairly early.. so Audreys mom takes him to school first and then drives an hour back to their home to get Audrey and bring her to school. Why she cant take both of them together is beyond me. I told you it was a strange situation. I dont even understand the current situation.
