Do any of you have neighbors with somewhat less than standard dog care?
My neighbors have dogs tied to a box, they get food and water. I check often. I think the one neighbors has his shots. But the other neighbors have no shots, I bet. It is this neighbors dog that I am worried about. I have reason to believe he lets her loose intentionally so she will run away. But she never does. She is such a good dog. I was running my mouth rather loudly to some neighbors about the danger this dog is in because of the road etc. The same afternoon the dog was tied up with a new collar and chain. The next day the dog was loose again. I really think he wants her to run away. I have tried finding a home for her, with no luck. And yes, if I found someone that wanted her, I would go get her out of that yard in a minute.

Is there anything else I can do?

Thoughts are apprieciated.

If I call someone, the call would be directed to the dog pound, that can kill owner surrenders on the spot. And since this dog does have an owner, I believe he would sign the give up papers, if he was confronted by the dog catcher. Other than that, legally the only thing he is doing wrong is not having vaccinated against rabies, and that I'm not even sure, and letting the dog run loose at certain times, and maybe not having license.
But if he would willingly surrender the dog, more than likely it would be PTS. And no charges would be filed.

I would love to find a home for this dog. I can even post a pic if anyone has any ideas.

I'd report them as well

My neighbors a few farms (there are miles between us) on my right side take poor care of their dogs in my opinion. But they are an older couple and so i take that into consideration too. They have I would say a pack of 5 or so hunting dogs hounds of all different shapes and sizes. The husband hunts alot and also runs a trap line and has a team of sled dogs he runs to check that. All their dogs are extremly thin and dirty and just sickly looking.

And on warm days in the summer if you pass by there it SMELLS of well you know....... I have reported them as has others im not sure why they still have animals....

Yea, and I am just afraid to make a bad situation worse.
Here is the dog I am concerned about. As you can see, not at a bad weight, but just neglected. And this picture was taken on one of the many times the owner had purposely let her loose, and I know he wanted her to run away.

The sad thing is, I cannot bring another dog into my house. If I found a home first I would get the dog and transfer, but I just can't foster a dog. I have 3 large dogs and a bird, and all are in the house. I just can't have another one.

Here is her picture:

She is great around other dogs, and doesn't even give a glance to the cats on the neighbors porch, besides eat all the cat food.

My neighbors are great. They have what appears to be a pit cross and he's the sweetest little thing. Loves Peanut, listens perfectly to his owners, and is such a great and loved dog. He'll never wander off, either. They let him off leash and he will always follow his owner, ready to listen. Great dog, lucky to have such great owners.

I have a neighbor (not real close) that has a dog that looks similar to that one. He is tied to a stake almost all day and goes balistic whenever a car goes by or someone walks by. I think he is part Border Collie. Obviously these people know nothing about the needs of that breed of dog. Prior to that they had a Collie that was left outside most of the time and spent his life in a hole dug under their mobile home. Inbetween the current dog and the collie, they had another puppy that just disapeared. It's just so disgusting.
I did a pet sit for a lady recently who's house was a major pig stye. She had an Airedale that wasn't neutered and was in dire need of grooming (matted). She kept him in her garage where he poops and pees. His food is kept in an open plastic storage container where I guess he helps himself. On my first visit she had his food inside of a household cleaning bucket! He had nothing to lay on but the concrete floor. She would let him out every day to run loose on her 10 acres (and wherever else he wanted). I felt so sorry for him. He was a typical fun loving Airedale and was fairly obediant. He would have been a wonderful companion for someone who gave a ****!
I felt he was very neglected but he had food, water and shelter so there wasn't much I could do about it. Obviously the woman was clueless. Given the condition of her house, I wonder what harm she thought he would do by letting him in it!

Some people just don't have a clue or care to have a clue when it comes to owning a dog. My daughter was bitten recently. Her and some friends had gone to an amusement park for Halloween, and they got back to the friends house really late. The friends dog was loose. My daughter is familiar with dogs, and let the dog sniff her, and then bent to pet it. The dog went nuts, and bit her on the back of the leg. The next day we called the people to find out if it had shots. It have NEVER had a single shot- they said it was a stray that showed up at their house about 5 years ago. The dog lived tied to a stake in the yard. No one in the house could go near it except my daughter's friend, because she fed it. When we told them that we were going to have to call AC to make sure the dog didn't have rabies, they guy was like I don't care, when they come, I have another one they can have too. Since this was going to cost him a lot in fines, etc- boarding the dog for 10 days to make sure it wasn't rabid, etc, he had the dog put down so they could test it. Nice guy, and there are a million others out there just like him.

This kills me! Why do people like this even think about getting a pet? I think they should have put HIM down so they could check him for idiocy!

We have neighbors with a Beagle. It is a fairly young pup. I can tell by the bark and it's young little face. Anyway, they have this huge yard and huge house. For the dog? A 6x6 pen with a thin piece of plywood over the top. The dog "Beagle yaps" nonstop asking for attention. Gggggrrrrr, and there is nothing I can do about it. It has the required food, water, and shelter.

You might talk to a lawyer about filing a civil nuisance action. I don't know the law in your state, but I could certainly argue in mine that the neighbor is using his land in a way that interferes with your quiet enjoyment of yours. You might be able to get an injunction and monetary damages.
