COULD THIS PUPPY BE MORE PERFECT.

I had last week off work so today was my first day back since having him, and I worked 8a-7p with an hour for lunch. He's going to be coming to work with me at least until he's old enough to only need a lunch time potty break. He does not generally settle well in his crate unless he is tired and ready for a nap, so I thought this long day was going to be torture for him (and me, knowing he'd hate it).

I set him up with a toy and a little marrow bone, and I don't think he really touched either but HE DID NOT MAKE ONE PEEP ALL DAY. The vast majority of the time he was passed out asleep. Sometimes he was just quietly watching us go about our business. It was most impressive because there was another dog in the room with him who was getting neutered today and he barkbarkbarked alllllllll day and I thought for sure he would either bark back or be scared.

He went accident free during that whole time (different story once we got home) and was a good boy for his puppy wellness exam. :D

Juno also did well with her first time being alone for that amount of time. Well, aside from the fact that she got into a bag of Zukes I had sitting on the table. But that's pretty typical of her lol.
So jealous! The clinic I work at doesn't allow employees to being their pets :(

it only took him until he was four years old.

Payton learned how to open his crate.

We're all screwed.

Seriously?! Is there a reason for that? Like obviously we just have to focus on our jobs first, so today during my 4 hour shift I didn't get a chance to take him out for a potty break because I didn't have enough downtime. But I don't know what I would do if I wasn't able to bring my pets! Not even just for him, but the amount of classes I took with Juno + Cajun where I wouldn't have had time to go home and get them before class, so they'd have to come to work with me. It's a nice benefit.

When your fire expands and you quickly tell your dog ( who was laying down behind you) to back up, but you stay right at the edge of the bricks.

Ugh, there is a dog at work that I just adore. Five month old border collie mix, with a ridiculously happy and confident personality. Loves toys and very playful; he will play disc with me while in his kennel with barking dogs all around him.

Video and pictures don't do him justice. He is such a nice looking puppy, with a, from what I can tell just from interacting with him in the kennel (puppies aren't allowed outside) nice personality. A dog person needs him.

Okay... Foster puppy take 2. The one I was supposed to get on Monday ended up staying with her old foster family because their schedule freed up to take her for one more week.

This little guy is coming up on transport Friday morning. Unless something goes horribly awry, he's coming home with me for reals this time. I was asked to name him and Atlas was the first thing that popped into my head, so Atlas he is! He's also really adorable. :D

Finally a good walk with pox tonight! He's focused and happy around other dogs at classes or trials but has been so overstimulated and starts screaming on leashed walks of he sees or hears another dog. We've been doing a mini walk around the neighborhood close to daily and today had a huge breakthrough. He didn't scream once (well, I'm not counting the squirrel that ran in front of us) and partway through my walk I met a neighborhood friend walking his three GSDs. At first when I saw him I turned the other way because 3 GSDs and I waited for him to get ahead. Well we ran into him again down the road and I couldn't avoid it. We ended up walking three blocks together and Pox was a rockstar. So happy! I did not expect that he'd be able to do it without a meltdown.

I am so excited; I finally have a Variocage coming after years of planning to get one and then having some emergency come up and suck up the money I had saved.

Now I just need to find someone to put it together, because I'm pretty sure that sort of skill set is not in my wheelhouse.

I would really like to move. I live sandwiched between my landlord's parents, who moved into a house down the street after I did, and one of his friends' families next door.

Today, while walking Indy, the landlord's mother's little white dog shot out of the house, broke its Flexi lead, and ran into the street snarling and trying to go after my guy. Indy puffed up, lunged and started growl screaming back and I more or less had to pick him up by the collar and drag him away. Naturally the neighbors that are friends with the landlord, who are kind of rude and nosy anyway, were out in the street gawping. And the landlord's mother was acting as if it was my fault somehow, seemingly? Which is most definitely the last thing I need. At least someone I know was there to corroborate the fact that Indy was enthusiastically defending but not the instigator, and at least neither dog was in fact bitten.

Indy has been bitten by smaller dogs before under similar circumstances and God bless him he has never bitten back. But the way he gets defensive and yells about it you wouldn't know he doesn't have a track record of eating dogs. (He actually loves to play with them and tries to initiate play with nearly every dog he meets, albeit rudely/obliviously enough that I don't usually let him interact too much - smaller and more sensitive dogs don't like his style.)

Also, I was so irritated and freaked out and in a hurry to get out of the situation that I know I was very rough bringing him into the house. Part of it is that he's stronger than I am and can be difficult to handle when he's really riled, but some of it was sheer loss of patience and upset at being stared at by 8 + people... so someone needs to take a gold star away from me ASAP.

:(

Making matters worse, my boyfriend teased me with the possibility of a townhouse he found for rent but the yard is simply far too small to be of any use for herding practice with the ducks.

"We would totally adopt her if she wasn't already in such a nice foster home!"

Thanks, potential adopter, for making me question my long-held standard of not playing stupid mind-games with you. If I had told you that she will be going back to that other foster home to live in a cement-and-chain-link kennel if the rescue isn't willing to try meds to make her more adoptable, would you have adopted her? What do you think happens to foster dogs that don't ever get adopted? They don't all end up as failed fosters...

So Wilson has improved miles and miles in the last few weeks. I've been taking him everywhere, camping, festivals, friends' houses, and it's really showing. I can pretty much take him anywhere now and expect him to behave like a semi-normal dog. Yesterday I took him to agility practice for the first time in a few months and our trainer, who helped me come up with a plan for his issues and was so patient and helpful when I first got him, told me that he not only didn't look scared but actually looked excited and happy to be working and doing new things that would have been terrifying before and I don't know hearing it from someone else just really made me that much more proud of him :3

Also I need to get this boy into an agility class. He was having so much fun and catches on to new things FAST when he isn't scared of them.

Overall he's just been maturing into such a nice dog. There was a time where I was questioning if he wouldn't be happier somewhere else and I'm really glad I decided to stick with it and work through it with him.

Cookie if anyone reads all that

So I signed Venice up for one splash of dock diving and one run in barn hunt at a local dog fest next weekend.

I have never trialed a dog in anything and Venice has never competed either, so it will be a learning experience. I don't honestly expect her to get a qualifying score in either event but it should be fun to try!

I love that I surround myself with people that that might not always agree with each other but have the ability to coexist and even be friends with others of various training methods without freaking out.

Also, being an Admin for a FB training group can sometimes be a lot of work. But I also am reminded what an awesome, different group we've made and how fantastic mot of the people in it are.

Good luck! You have the exact right attitude so I bet you'll have a blast!

I posted this in the baby thread but I think it's funny, so...

I was talking to Roy last night about things we could do to get the dogs ready for a baby. I came up with all kinds of ideas and how I would work with the dogs based on their reactions.

Today I started my master plan by playing 2 minutes of a baby's cries at a lowish volume.

They slept through it. Lol. Good dogs.

I guess a baby's cries pale in comparison to rock music, Bones marathons, long nights of video games, and city living in general.

So, six months ago my brother and his wife and kid got a hound pup from a friend's rescue and I finally got to meet him a couple days ago. He's kind of shy with strangers but super sweet and just...you know...that perfect one year old dog where all the owner has to complain about is maybe one chewed item a month.

He's an awesome dog. I have to admit I was kind of jarred by the role reversal because it's always been me introducing the dog to my siblings and I'm used to the dog being glued to me and they always had cats. Now I'm the cat person and they're the dog people.

And one little thing, like I really hate to be that person, that whiny person, but I do feel like the universe played a joke on me where neither dog I put my heart into turned out but on the first try they just got that perfect pup and barely have to train him. He's just good naturally. Kinda wonder if it's just a sign.

I feel guilty for feeling that way but glad to have it off my chest.
