there are so many differences that i notice just from this site.
for one thing you guys are friendly and open and generous, the brits tend to be tightlipped about things and dont do anything for nothing(ot them all though)

words too. oh and dog breeds.
your boxers and dobermans have pointy ears ours have flappy ears.

i cant think of any words right now that are dog or even animal related but i will and ill post, feel free to post if you guys think of any

the main one I can think of is "leash" vs "lead"
also "retractable" vs "flexi lead"
there are others too - like "seeing-eye dog" instead of "guide dog"
I'll put more up if I can think of them...
And I agree, in my experience our transatlantic cousins are a much friendlier and expressive bunch, the UK (for me) is a pretty cold and expensive place!!! (although it says I'm in Spain I am a Brit and back there at the mo!)

fringe bangs.......Funny you should mention that. I am from the states and am a licensed cosmetologist. I was trained to use "fringe", evidently it is considered the "universal" word for bangs and bangs can be offensive in othe countries. (how offensive? We were never told the real meaning! LOL)

In the US you seem to have loads of great things made for dogs, proper dog food, kongs, dog parks............

I met a really friendly American girl earlier this year and she was fascinated that we use the word 'brilliant' when something is v.good, ......I loved the fact she used 'awesome' so often! :D

A friend of my husband's stopped by last summer while on vacation from England. He had brought his mom to see the states. My daughter and I sure enjoyed listening to his accent and how he'd say things. He talked about our drinking cold beer, he went out to his car to get a fag (loved that one). Oh I am in a fog still and I wish I could think what else had us so tickled that day listening to him.

That would have made me confused too!! I am use to just pizza not pizza pies. That is weird. I live in the US by the way. Maybe it is a eastern thing. I live on the westcoast.

But the pizza place might have been owned by Italians and have their own way of saying things too.

LOL! Pizza pie is more of a northeastern big-city thing. If you said that down here no one would have a clue what you wanted.

This is a fascinating thread! Shoot, I got culture shock just moving from northern California to Wilmington, North Carolina! And I couldn't understand a word anyone was saying . . . and of course, they all thought that all of California was just like Los Angeles and Hollywood!

im in new york and when we go to a pizza place and want a whole pizza pie we say "let me get a pie' or '2 slices'
instead of brilliant we say 'phat' 'hott' hott is the most popular
depends on where we are well say 'were can i take a leak" lol if in a resturant well say 'wheres your restroom'
those are for the bathroom lol
anything else ???
