Many of you know Baby my Sibe who is pretty much the most beautiful girl you have ever seen husky wise lol. I often wish she was breeding quality but she is not so oh well to that. But i constantly get compliments on how beautiful Baby truly is and everyone just fawns over her and loves over her when they meet her. Even at races MUSHERS even melt at the sight of her and she is extremly fit. She is a fast little brat lol and loves to run, run, and run some more with out tiring...... I was and still am constantly offered quite large amounts of money to buy her but I always say no. She is in so many words a dream come true racing wise.

Anyways one day I was visiting my brother and his wife and children. I brought Baby with me as I always take one or two of the dogs with me just to get out of the house a change of scenery type thing. Baby was out in the backyard by herself but I could see her out the kitchen window and they girls were constantly in and out to see and play with her. Baby was young just over a year and just doing her puppy thing. I turned my back for I swear a second and when I turned around BABY WAS GONE! I mean gone the yard was empty and fear set in. I ran out the door mid conversation with my sister inlaw and starting yelling for Baby and looking all around the yard. Thats when I saw the gate open!

I knew it was not the girls who left the gate open they clould not reach the latch and anyways we had tied a leash around the gate and fence so we had extra security for Baby........It was untied and lieing on the ground. Thats when I lost it I started screaming for Baby and ran out of the yard looking for her. There was no sign of anyone and no sign of Baby anywhere. We called the shelters and everything hoping she would some how escape and end up there....Nothing. I stayed the night at my brothers hoping someone would return her in the morning. Once again nothing and i was depressed as anything at that point.

So I went home to take care of the other dogs. It wasent until two days later I get a call from a woman saying she thinks she BOUGHT my dog! I practically screamed WHAT! She explained that a ad in the paper offered a pure bred husky for sale and that she went to look at her and bought her. But the dog was acting weird and just being destructive so she tried to call the phone number from the ad and it said it was disconnected. She then explained how she made a trip out to the house and found out that the house had not been lived in (She met the people and bought Baby in the backyard of the house so she could'nt see the house was unfurnished and abondoned).

She said she then had a bad feeling about the whole thing and just by chance checked her over for a tattoo. She looked at the inside of the inside of left leg around her thigh and saw the tattoo. My dogs tattoos contain my phone number and under it the number dog they are in my pack. She by chance called me and got ahold of me. She and I both cried over the phone she lived 10 hours from me. So we each drove 5 hours and met halph way and the reunion was wonderful between Baby and I. She ran straight to me and just melted like "oh mummmy I thought I lost you" and I was crying and she was crying. I offered to pay her back whatever she paid for Baby but she refused it. I havent taken Baby anywhere where I will leave her alone or anything like that since. If I take her to a relatives i keep her on a leash at my side.

We never caught Babies dognappers and probley never will. I am just thankful that they were such big idiots that they either never noticed her tattoo or just did'nt remember to remove it (though it would'nt matter she is chipped as well just in case something like that happened). She was ok other then being stressed out when I got her back.

I will never let that dog out of my site ever again. And never let yours either because this could happen to anyone.

 That's...that's...beyond horrible, I can't even think of how to describe it! Taking a dog out of a backyard that obviously had some extra security measures, stupid &%(&**&*(@!@ thieves need to be dragged behind a sled at full speed!

I'd send that lady a Christmas card or something, she is at least a decent person who didn't keep something that didn't belong to her.

Oh yes we have kept in touch and I even gave her one of my dogs Curly who was not cut out for sled racing due to his curly coat (hence his name). So instead of selling him to her I just gave him to her. He is now one the most spoiled rotten housepets I have ever seen.

Love4pits, I know from experiece it is a terrible feeling to have an animal you love stolen. Both of my Great Danes were stolen from our backyard in November of 2002. Somehow Duke got loose, or something. We found him cold, wet, cut foot, and many cuts and scratches. I think he was let loose because he was older, Sampson had just turned one a few days earlier. Sampson (actually my sons', but we had him) was never returned. I posted everywhere. I am so glad you had a tatoo, that helped to get her home. After that all of mine are microchipped. I am so glad you had a happy ending. I still check for Sampson on rescue sites etc. but nothing.

OMG, L4P's... I'm just now reading this! This is HORRIBLE but what a happy end freaky ending! That's so sweet you gave her Curly. (I'm curious as to what a curly coat has to do with sledding, however :p ). What did she pay for Baby? Sounds like a dog stealing ring. It would be neat to set them up and catch those freaking losers!!
