your shading is starting to get the feeling of depth..try making your lines go the way the hair grows..i always turn my paper upside down when i do eyes..just a habit. It helps me get them even and in the right place and keeps me from putting them where my mind says they ought to be but really arent.

I draw cartoon dogs and more life like ones. This is one of my cartoon dogs. It is pretty crappy but I did it from memory and I have limited resources to draw with.

not in the daily sketch! it is all practice..as long as it is family friendly. pixie those are lovely,..i do most of my sketching on computer print paper with an 05 mechanical pencil or pen. back of envelopes all such places when i am just playing around or working something out. a sketch is all about expression and not worrying about finish.it is the visual thought.

oooops i should have reduced that sorry! it was the little window in the front door..he would jump on the screen and you could see him thru that window. He would just hang there until someone came and opened it up. he must have had the strongest nails for he could hang there a long time.

not if you don't want to..line drawings, quick gestures, all fall in the sketch department. Shading is actually the beginning of the more final piece of work. I like the freedom of a quick sketch to catch a fleeting moment or just to play with line and shape. All comes into practice and builds on your skill level. i have been wicked bad about not getting anything done in the last couple weeks but hope to return to my normal work pattern soon. Sketching is my most favorite part of my art. It is the part for me that most feels like "play" and is the element of fun that i want to get back to.

What a great thread!

It's neat that you guys are sketching. Keep at it.
I really like that one a few pages back of "yawning dog."

I'm a little out of sketch practice myself, but here's one of
Fuzzy I did during a dull meeting last month.
