I usually never read unless I have to for school. But after the recent death of my dog, this book caught by eye. I must say so far it's a pretty good book. Anyone read this....also, don't ruin the ending for me or anyone else who hasnt read it.

I have never read it, but i will look for it :)

I remember as a child (Teenager) reading a book called "Emma", it was a book about a lady and her guide dog.
It was a great book :)
I can't remember the Author though :(

I loved the book. Marley is such a rambunctions, not entirely obedient dog, and we were in the process of trying to calm a terrier mix puppy and acclimate him into household life. It was nice to read of the love and attachment this family has for this imperfect dog.

I liked how it showed that some dogs just seem really hopeless when it comes to training sometimes... Reminded me a bit of Boris... lol.

LOVED IT!! Cried like a baby at the end, but it was a wonderful book! I really enjoyed it. And I agree with Fran, it showed just how hopeless some dogs can seem, but also how much love and joy they bring to the family...

Loved it!

I told my sister to read it because Marley reminds me of her dog, Mesa, lol...but she refuses to because of the ending.

The book is very upbeat for the most part. I loved it. I was struggling with an unruly puppy at the time I was reading it, and it was reassuring to me to read how another family could look back on those times affectionately. They focused on his love of life and great joy and llived with his less than desirable behavior. I continued to work on obedience and trying to mold Spanky into the behavior we wanted from a dog, but I started learning to enjoy his pure joy and happiness in every waking moment while I waited for the training to take.

Wonderful book! I really procrastinated finishing it, though because I knew I was going to bawl my eyes out. Marley became a part of me while I was reading it, if you know what I mean.

My favorite line that made me fall off the bed laughing was when the author, after having Marley kicked out of obedience school, was trying to teach him to sit and stay in their back yard. After many attempts he managed to get all the way across the yard with Marley still sitting. He could tell that Marley was about to explode so with a lot of enthusiasm he called for Marley to come. Marley exploded off across the yard. The author then remembered he forgot to teach Marley to stop. Then the line that I loved:
"A moment before impact, I could see in Marley's eyes that the pilot had left the wheelhouse.":D

I really liked it. It was so entertaining to read, but the ending was sad. It was bittersweet how they showed the years going by, and Marley's progression.

The one thing is, the Grogan's were horrible dog trainers (and sometimes bad dog owners) and sometimes I felt sorry for Marley.
