I am very bad at sleeping I will lay there for hours on end and will not fall asleep, and i'm tired because my eyes hurt really bad. Like last night I fell asleep at 3:30am and woke up at 6:00am and could not go back to sleep. I'm so tired right now it not funny. I been trying to sleep for the last 2 hours and I just can't.

What do you do to fall asleep.

I have a TERRIBLE time with falling asleep at night. Even when I get up really early in the morning for work, I still can't go to sleep at night. I've tried everything and am even currently working with a physician who specializes in sleep disorders. We went through all of the relaxation tecniques, and he finally had to resort to giving me medication to help me sleep. I don't like to have to depend on it, but I don't like existing on no sleep either. I can go days and days with little or no sleep. It became debilitating for me.

These are some of the things I tried first:

NEVER having anything with caffiene after 12pm.

Not eating dinner late....just having a light snack at bedtime.

Hot bath 1-2 hours before bedtime.

Not watching tv in bed.

Reading at before bedtime.

Sleeping in a cool & dark room.

Unisome and other over the counter sleep aids

Melatonin.

Listening to relaxation tapes.

Listening to soft music while trying to fall asleep.

Hot milk.

Herb tea.

Getting up after not being able to fall asleep in one hour , then try again.

You name it...I've tried it!!!!!!!!!! I've had insomnia problems since I was a kid with only relief during my teenage years for a few years.

Good luck to you!!!

I bore myself by reading and then it's pretty easy after that.

Oh and don't think about anything. If you start thinking about stuff you'll never get to sleep.

^lol, that's like saying 'don't think about a pink elephant'. I can never do that.

I just stare at the ceiling until I fall asleep. :p

I used to have really bad night terrors as a kid... had to go to sleep school.. THat's irrelevant but I would have a horrible time going to sleep.

I was told to never do anything other than sleep in my bed. Or otherwise your body won't associate your bed with sleep.

I usually read. Sometimes I read a whole book in one night! I'd always fall asleep with a book in my hand, my glasses and the light on!

Now, usually I'm so exhausted I put a movie on and pass out within 10 minutes.

I have similar problems with falling asleep. When Tony is home (weekends) I can usually fall asleep, but we still don't go to bed until 1 or 2am.

When he's gone I find that I don't want to go to sleep by myself and will stay up until 4 am most nights. When I finally go to bed, not sleepy yet, I read a book, make sure the a/c is on and the room is dark except for the light in the headboard that I read by. Also have to have a fan (white noise) to fall asleep. Usually by page 2 or 3 of the book I'm nodding off. When I start nodding off I turn off the light, without looking at it, and get in my favorite position (stomach with a leg cocked up and bent) and fall asleep. Sometimes I still need Tylenol PM or Nyquil (yes, without a cold).

The trick is to think about things unrelated to your real life,I think about space, evolution, what it would be like to own a monky or be a world class bmxer flying thru the air.fantasy kinda stuff that distorts and becomes abstract then you fall off.Thoughts involving your daily routine or coming events will have your brain going round n round in a never ending cycle.

i wish i could send you some of my ability to be out as soon as i hit the bed..(that is providing the dog is with me) i found that if not, i just can't drop off. I am always just beat by the time bedtime rolls around, mentally and physically. Sometimes i will wake up in the middle of the night and not be able to go back to sleep but that seldom happens. I pack a full day.
