I haven't been on much lately. I have been busy. Just thought everyone would like a Teddy update.

Right now Teddy is out of commission. He was swimming at the river the other day and got a nasty cut on the pad of his foot. He was bleeding pretty badly. We took him to the emergency vets and a girl came in and bandaged up his foot because he was bleeding all over the floor. we waited for an hour and Teddy was bleeding through the bandage all over the floor again. Finally the vet came in. he asked what the problem was and we told him that Teddy was swimming at the river and got a nasty cut and was bleeding a lot. The vet did not even LOOK at the cut. He asked me to show him on Teddys other back foot where the cut was. It was on the big pad on the side. He then suggested that teddy would need stitches and would have to be put under to get the stitches. He then left (still hadn't looked at the wound). A girl came in with a paper for us to sign saying the procedure would cost $700 :O WHAT??!! he didn't even look at it. We really didn't think it was bad enough to warrant that kind of treatment. So we asked if there was a non surgical way to treat it and the girl said "Oh of course. We can just take him back and clean it up, give him some antibiotics and wrap it up" Funny the vet never mentioned this option. That was going to cost us $400 bucks. We said fine. We waited for another 45 minutes and heard nothing about taking Teddy back to get it cleaned. So finally we just told the girl at the front desk that we would just like the antibiotic shot and we would take him home and clean it and dress the wound and take him to our vet. So they did.

Today we went to our new vet and Teddy loves him. he is a great vet. He said no way did the wound need to be stitched and $700 is a little steep for maybe 2 stitches. He said to just keep it wrapped for a couple of weeks and he is on two antibiotics. He can't play for a few weeks either  He is already getting cabin fever from being cooped up.

here are some new pics

Poor Teddy, But that vet sounds horrible. Sorry you had such a bad experience, but sounds like you found a good vet now. Hope Teddy heals ok.

SPARKS!!! I haven't seen you for awhile! Thanks for the Teddy update. It looks like he's doing well. Sorry about the incident with the cut. I hope he gets better soon.

Check my sig! I got another dog while you've been gone! Or actually, It's more accurate to say that he decided to join our family. Now that you and Puckster are together, I think you need to get Teddy that GSP friend you've been talking about. :D

You got Voodoo before I left ;) He is cute though

The GSP friend has to wait until September. We are going up to Northern Ontario at the end of August for a week and we have Teddy at the point where we can trust him off leash while playing. it is no where near a road so thats no concern. he has been very trustworthy off leash as of late.

So after that we will start looking. Plus Teddy has to heal first

Sparks,
Glad to see you around. I hope Teddy is mending quickly.

I had the same thing happen to Charlie except he had to be sedated and required 20 stitches and several staples. My vet experience was nothing less than great though. He spent two nights in the hosp and was on anitbiotics and pain meds. His total bill less several bandage changes was $500.

They did a wonderful job with him. He had the stitches in for twenty days, because of the movement and pressure where they were at.

If you would like to read about it here is the thread:

I am glad Teddy got away with alot less trauma than my Charlie.

My husband had to wrap the wound after it happened using our first aid kit, just so I could make it to the vet with him. And even so the back of our jeep was covered in blood.

Oh gosh thats horrible. yeah Teddy's isn't that bad but we did go through a whole roll of paper towel trying to keep pressure on the cut. for such a small cut he bled so much. I was freaking out and yelling for Brian. I have never seen so much blood all at once lol. Teddy is being a good sport about it all though. Except he keeps me up all night now lol.

He actually hasn't grown :d and I can say that with some certainty lol since we went to the vets yesterday and they wanted to weigh him. Teddy hates the scale for some reason so it always takes some talking into to get him on there. So the vet tech asks if I have a general idea of how much he weighs. I said "about 70 lbs" So then I took Teddy and got him up onto the scale and the weight went between 69lbs and 71 lbs lol. He hasn't been weighed for about 6 months or so. :D Lol the vet Tech said "boy your mommy knows you well" lol

He does look taller to me sometimes though. But then other days he looks shorter to me lol.

He's really matured, Sparks! He looks leaner and, well, just more grown up :) He's kinda looking like maybe there's some Greyhound in there . . . the tail is puzzling now, though. It's got the same unique look in a couple of those photos as a Fila tail!

It's a coonhound tail. Look at some pics of Redbone coonhounds. you will see it.

he really has been maturing. he is starting to come into his own. The vet even complimented us on his good shape.

I didn't know they held their tails with a crook in them too :) That's one of the things you look for in a pure bred Fila . . . if the tail crook isn't there, it's not considered a pure Fila by some of the Fila world

Most of the time it curls up over his back a bit. but in these pics he was running and jumping so his tail goes funny sometimes.
