Yep Tis true. Teddy got out of the park today.

He was playing with the two shelties and when they left she shut the gate but it didn't close all the way and swung back open. She didn't realize it and neither did I until she was as far away from it as I was. So I started calmly walking to the gate and then when I got half way I started running. Big mistake lol.

Teddy Saw me running and took off like a rocket. As me running always means fun times :D he ran right out the gate. I was shocked for a second and didn't move or say anything. he ran up the sidewalk a little bit and I saw there was a van coming through the parking lot. This is when I got really scared. So I called his name and tapped his "chuck it" on the ground and he instantly did an about face and came running back at me at full speed and right back into the park :D I was so proud of him hehe. "come" has never been our best area but since we got the chuck it he almost has a 100% recall rate.

of course I never try this outside a fenced area but the chuck it distracts him from everything lol even other dogs and critters :D

I was so proud and relieved

LOL Jess it was just a little park behind my house. it is owned by the building next door but they allow us to use it to run our dogs in :D

this is a chuck it :D http://www.petfooddirect.com/store/product_detail.asp?pf_id=21212901&dept_id=106&brand_id=120&Page=

It has a long handle and a scoop to hold the ball. basically it helps you throw long distances with little effort. my arm was getting sore from throwing it manually lol. Anyway it doesn't even have to hve the ball in it for Teddy. I can scoop up leaves and he gets excited

LOL it really is the greatest purchase I have made for Teddy lol. I don't have to bend over EVERYTIME he brings the ball back lol I can throw it longer distances without tearing up my shoulder AND when I have that thing he is TOTALLY focused on me and the toy lol. NOTHING distracts him from it. Two dogs came up and sniffed him and he didn't even blink at them lol

Sparks your sig pic just reminded me that I meant to ask you how helpful you found his halti or gentle leader harness I see him wearing in his pics. Otto's new trainer just gave me a gentle leader to try out to help with his focus and training when we are on walks in distracting situations.

Lol, Teddy sounds like such a character.
I have one of those chuck it things, I got it from the $2 shop, for $2 or so. Much better than picking up slimy and mud covered tennisballs ;)

I do find it helpful. Mainly he has to wear it for when he sees critters run by lol. the rest of the time he walks wonderfully on a leash. BUT sometimes at night a bunny will dart across our path and if I didn't have that Halti Iwouldn't have an arm lol. It happens to quickly to stop him lol. Plus it helps right now because he lost his collar at the dog park and the only one we could find that wasn't too small is a touch too big. I mean I really have to TRY to pull it over his head but it can be done. So the Halti gives me a bit of security right now lol
