I've decided to use clicker training - which I'm new to - to try to teach Winnie to fetch a beer.

I figured the first step was to get her to touch the beer with her nose. Here's the Part 1 video:

Cute! I'm looking forward to seeing how this progresses.

I can't teach the Fila monsters anything like that, as they would... A-be in the refrigerator constantly, B-learn to open the beer, C-drink the beer before they brought it to me.

Yeah you can't have that! That beer money would have to come out of their allowance!

At first I'm going to try to get her to fetch out of an open cooler. Then there is a small half-fridge I keep in the garage, that will be the only fridge I train this trick on. (Actually it's usually the only one with beer in it anyway.) But low to the ground and accessible from outside where I'd need it most often!

I hope it's not a mistake to post early progress here. Now if I can't do it, everyone will know. :(

Thanks!! My favorite part is when she and Gromit both just watch the can roll away. God I love that dog.

Love the videos. I do like the expression on Gromit's face watching the can rolling. Is Gromit a JRT?

I just watched both videos. As much as she responds to the clicker, it was really fun to see her waggle all over to hear you say "good girl!" What a dog. :)

I just hope you didn't try right away to drink the beer you were practicing with in video #2... that could have been messy. Lol!

Now I want to teach Morgan this. However, I think we will work on the door-barking problem first.

Good luck! :D

Thanks! She's so sweet, she had me laughing so hard. At first I was thinking the only video I'm getting out of this is going to look like a comedy routine. But we were both having a lot of fun. :)

Someone else asked me about the condition of the beers being used. It appears that there will be a number of casualties that will be sacrificed for the greater good. ;)

A few years ago we had some chazzers that had taught their dogs to bring them beers. I will try to remember who it was so I can pull up the pictures or videos for you. They were really good at it. Some of the other mods might remember who they were.

Winnie really is adorable. She is fun to watch.
