I am really getting into the whole training process with Koda and want to teach her a few cute tricks that will impress my 4 1/2 year old, like shake, etc. What cute tricks do your dogs know that delight kids?

High Five and Roll over are huge hits when Maddie and I visit the preschool I work at. Also... a funny one was... Go Sit in Time-Out! :rofl1: (and stay there!)

I had a teacher who brought his dog to school and the biggest hit was turning on and off the light, lol... he tied a string to the light switch.

A lot of it is the set up.

For example teach your dog to paw you, nose you etc and use the cue 'find mommy'

Or if your dog rolls over cue it with "what do you do if your fur catches fire?" (stop drop and roll)

Playing dead is good.. etc

I know a cocker who sneezes on command and I find it awfully adorable.

Cider will nudge my leg when I say whose your momma..

Wave is a hit at the school where I work. Mick did a twist on wave so the kids thought he was doing math. A kid would ask Mick a math question, and I'd signal him to wave to match the answer. Also- signals themselves are popular, too. The kids are amazed that your dog can do something without being "told", and, the kids can get the dog to do something (stand behind the kid and give the signal for whatever the kid is asking the dog to do).

A couple of others:
Depending on how much room you have, jumping through a hula hoop
weaving through your legs
marking and retrieving something

Haha...cute ideas.

I think that one where you sneeze and the dog goes and brings you a Kleenex would be a fun one.

Luna jumps through my arms - I shape my arms like a hoop (and kneel down!) and she jumps through. It's especially fun because she'll do it with kids too. :)

Jumping through a hoop is also a good one. Personally I LOVE when people teach their dog to jump rope, I've never been able to teach Luna that one.

People also love it when Luna "claps" - she stands on her back feet and puts her front feet together like she's clapping.

And retrieve is always good. I taught Luna to take something from a person (like a dollar bill ;)) and bring it to me. :D

My pup has learned a new trick which is really funny.............it started when I she was laying on my lap and farted.......I said Stinky Puppy!! and then quickly had an idea and gave her a treat at her butt. Now when I say Stinky she puts her nose under her tail :) and starting to do it pretty consistantly lol.

My nephew loves the waving and turning lights off (there's a million and one ways to do that...my dog stands up and paws the switch). Roll over, shake.

Gavroche also crawls completely inside my shirt when a open the bottom and say "in!" That makes my nephew rofl ever time xD Just be sure the nails aren't sharp...

This lady and her borzoi have a really cool routine, where she wrote big signs with words, holds them up, and cues the tricks to make it look like the dog is reading the signs. Something similar would be an awesome act for kids.

YouTube - Jelly The Reading Borzoi

And then this basketball routine. The first trick is cool, because she cues Jelly (the borzoi) to go get a tissue for her by sneezing.

It's a veeeeery tight fit, but he manages it. Sometimes he'll even pop his head out the top xD

Dogs actually can be taught to read words like that. Check out some of Bonnie Bergin's work.

That dog has the most awkward crawl I've ever seen. Those looooong legs! lol

Oh cool, I'll have to look her up. I think this lady is cueing, at least mostly because she tips the signs certain ways on certain ones. Kids won't know that though. ;)

lol, that IS an awkward crawl. Some time I'll have to make a video of Strider crawling. He slithers. A holdover from the days when he thought "Downstay" meant he could move around as he pleased as long as his belly stayed on the ground.

Wow, so many great ideas!!! Right now we are working on "touch" my hand and last night I had my daughter do it and she was so tickled when Koda touched her hand. I think "high five" is definitely in order, as is "roll over".
I'm off to check out all the suggested links! Thanks so much for all the great ideas.
