Ok guys these might be some pretty dumb questions but I want to see what you think...

I've been working on these with Ollie and he knows them pretty much but still mostly does them when I have treats

Sit
Down
Shake
Roll Over

He does sit and down when I tell him too, usually! Unless his too excited. He can do the others occasionally without any treats.

Today I worked on 'Drop it' but his still learning Take a Nap and doesn't know it as well as the others. Is it alright to be training 2 different tricks at the same time, is it too much?

Also, at the dam Ollie won't come back straight away. Last time I took some treats and that got him to come back pretty much straight away. Is that alright? He doesn't snap right into 'Come here' if I just say it. I usually have to bribe him a bit. I always give him a good pat and "Good boy" when he comes though.

Thanks for reading :)

Hi Emily

I do not know much about Ollie as I am new on the board.
So if you dont mine refreshing the age of the dog?
How long have you owned him?

As far as training goes when you are training treats / toys are nice, but they are crutches.

When you use the sit for example; sit-treat/praise, sit-toy/praise, sit-praise w/o treats & toys. Mix these up so the dog NEVER antipates what you are doing.

Must remember dogs can remember better then you think as well as they count.

I know in my training (Schutzhund) the dogs will antipate when the next move/turn/sit so on is coming. So we must always mix in another number or steps or shorten it so the dog NEVER knows.

On the come command, I highly suggest getting a long light rope and put it on the dog collar and let the dog run around with it. when you want the dog to return pick up the least w/o him noticing and pull at the same time say your command. This way the dog learns that when you say that word he will react on the command. as he starts to get better you can only put it on when needed until he has fully understood what you are trying to achieve.

Hope this helps
