I've always heard ribs were the worst. I had two i wanted on my ribs (white buffalo and purple teddy bear) but i'm thinking about doing them on the backs of my calves if i ever get them done.

Lol guitar string tattoo gun! I made one of those but thankfully decided to wait and get it done professionally.

Mrose...i did the same thing, but i just used a needle and pen ink, no glue gun. I did a star on my hip. It lasted a whole year, but slowly faded away to nothing.
Yeah, it was a guitar string and the body was a hollowed out bic pen. The motor came from a VCR. My uncle did the tattoo. Hes been tattooing for 20 years, and learned how to do it in prison of all places. The tat came out pretty good for being a home-made gun. The ink was professional though.

My fiance does his own tattoos and friends also. When he told me what was in his ink. I was very worried and thought he was CRAZY. It was pen ink, dawn dish soap, rubbing alcohol, ground up pencil lead, and other stuff that I cant remember. All of his tattoos have lasted, surprisingly.

Reggin not to be too harsh here but your fiance is whats known as a scratcher, and what he's doing is really looked down upon by tattoo artist.. There are a lot of diseases he could be spreading around because he was never an apprentice and is missing out on a lot of knowledge and equipment. Please don't let him give you a tattoo.

nice, I love my little scar. Reminds me never to do it again, we used to glue gun so we could heat it up. We were going to find some indian ink and try again but never got aroudn to it. I also tries a little <3 a couple of times in the same spot with a scalpel and pen ink, but I'm too much a wuss to make it deep enough to stick. In hindsight, probably a good thing.

^ AGREED.

no offence meant but that makes MY skin crawl. and makes my tattoist cousin do the WTF jaw drop thing...
i cant imagine taking that kidn of risk, there are health inspections of tatoo parlors for a REASON.

please guys be carefull, im sure home done tats are all fun and games, but infections, and reactions to "home made" inks are EXTREEMLY common!

if your REALY serious about tats you get the aprenticship with a legal shop and learn to do it safely (or find an artist that has if your only interested in getting one)

^^Love them!

I have a question, what are the subdermals made of? Did they hurt?
And what is the vertical post in your ear called?

Gah, I want an industrial!

Thank you :)

They're silicone domes, and no they weren't too pleasant! Had some major bruising for a week or so too which was pretty uncomfortable.

That is either called a vertical industrial or vert. scaffold, generally the industrial is more commonly used in the US and the scaffold in the UK. Some people will try and tell you that one word is the "standard" placement, like I also have, and the other is the vertical...but it's just differences in terminology really :)

Your tattoos look great! Love the colors. And the biomechanical arm was really cool. If i was interested in getting a full sleeve i might get something like that.

Ouch! I saw a vid of a guy who had a large tattoo of a woman on his leg and he gave her subdermal breast implants, but it got infected a few days later (Yowzaa!). It looked *so* painful when the artist was trying to shove the implants in his leg!

Did the vertical one hurt more than in the industrial?

Gah, sucks so bad that the career I want to go into looks down on this kind of stuff :(

Thanks...I must get some better pics at some point. You're lucky, there are some great biomech artists in the US :)

Hee hee, I saw that too!

Nope, I'd say they were about the same. But I'm a wuss with all cartilage piercings really!

Yeah, I feel for ya...I'm lucky really! If you don't already know about it, check out www.bmezine.com. Great for all kinds of modifications :)

Thanks for the link!

I have to go and set up an appointment on Monday (was going to do it Friday, but I ended up w/ a migraine) for my first tattoo. I'm getting the Train lyrics, as I float along this ocean I can feel you like a notion that won't seem to let me go as a tribute to my Dad who passed away. My original plan was to get a sailboat with the lyrics, but I can't decide, so I'm putting it off for now and I'll add it later if I really want it. I want the lyrics around my ankle, and I've heard that it hurts when you get it there, so I'm just a wee bit nervous, lol.

I also want the words 'We are all in this together' (yes, from the commercial, lol) but I don't know where I want that yet.
