Well i was walking Tater over to the field over here......We were about 3 trailors away from the field when, Out Of Nowhere a Pit Bull comes charging at tater and stats snarling and growling and goes for his neck viciously......I was SO freaked out i seriously thought i was going to have a Heart Attack! So i Yelled OH MY GOD and kicked (not hard enough) the dog.....He stopped and just continued to circle tater i saw one of the people of the trailor and said are you going to grab your Fing dog! She goes "oh Wait let grab my Fiance' its His dog".....I wanted to kill her....while she was going in the house she said" hes Not a mean dog"....I don't think i Ever laughed So hard in my entire life!

So he comes out and grabs the dog and says Nothing to me, Not sorry for having my insane asshole dog off leash or Sorry my dog attacked your dog...Nothing! I called the non emergency number over here and basicly they said they can do nothing about cause its after the fact......But if we see the dog off leash again to call 911......

I dont even know how to end this.....Im So pissed!

It could very well BE a nice dog and not a mean dog, BUT, a Pit Bull is a Pit Bull and, except for rare situations, should not EVER be off leash, unsupervised where there are other dogs.

Tallulah's not shown any desire to start a fight at all, but I wouldn't trust that not to change at any time, so she is never with any dogs except Kharma and Bimmer without being on leash - with me on the other end of the leash.

You gotta respect your dog for what it is.

Its a possibility! ANd i bet it could be alot nicer of a dog if it had an owner/owners that were not complete morons and watched/took care of there dog. UHG! Its just way to easy for some random moron to get a dog.

Meh. Sorry about that. Not that it was my fault, but I occasionally feel the need to apologize for what others do with my breed. The dog was just following his genetic promptings. And for what it's worth, I've had Labs, Chow-types, even Chihuahuas do the same to me. Only when you're the one walking the bulldog, it's not nearly so scary. :-\

I know, right?

My friend is an ACO around here and pit bull owner. There has been many a night she comes home exclaiming she hates pit bulls (except for ours). She doesn't really mean it, but it's frustrating to constantly have to deal with people who have these dogs and don't manage them well. And it feels like the majority of irresponsible owners, at least around here, choose to own pit bulls. One step forward, two steps back.

Sorry you had to deal with that. A charging dog is *always* freaky.

I wish people who own a pit bull (especially the "casual" ones) would get into their brain that there is no room to slip. If your dog runs off and gets into a brawl- that might start the next BSL in the area. One more bad media report is one report too many.

Yes, people and the media are biased and no, it is not fair. And that's why "just" being an owner is not enough- you need to always think a step ahead... you should know that you need to be proactive. You need to know that you can not put your dog in a situation that, for any other breed might not be bad per se, but could lead into something bad for your dog and your breed.

Argh. I am sorry it happened to you.

stupidity like that is what's killing this breed. it's got nothing to do with the dogs themselves.

how's your dog?

how're your nerves?

i've had my dogs charged by dogs on numerous occasions, and once ended up with a fight. i didn't stop shaking for hours afterwards, even though neither my dog nor the loose, unsupervised dog were seriously hurt. it was terrible.

Tell me about it. I have had a MINIATURE poodle, a little scottie, a boxer, and even a yellow lab charge and go for blood while walking Orson! But I know somehow when it was all over that "people" would see it as Orson's fault even though he was on lead with me and the other dog was loose. It's just how it is unfortunately.

Any loose dog is a problem and can be a threat.........some can just cause more damage more quickly than others.

I am sorry you went through this, it's a scary thing no matter the breed..........but especially with a breed big enough to really do some damage.

Hopefully they will be more careful, but I wouldn't hold your breath on that one.

When I moved in here and had Bubba , he would stay in the front unfenced yard with me when I gardened . My neighbor ,at that time , had a huge pittie which she admitted was very DA and PA .....one day as Bubba and I were enjoying our day , her dog got out and I saw him stalking quietly towards us . Luckily Bubba was my velcro dog and I got up quietly and and got him into the house . I hate to think what could have happened if Bubba had seen him as he loved all dogs and would have run to greet him ! Wouldn't have been pretty !

:( I'm sorry you had to endure that.

Last April, Tango was minorly injured by a Pittie who was off leash on a school field. Fortunately, I was able to prevent her from getting torn up (not sure how, really, just adrenaline I guess)... but it was an absolutely terrible experience. His owner was right there the whole time and didn't say or do anything. He didn't even acknowledge the fact that his dog was attacking mine, or come to see if Tango or I were ok. He just kept walking like nothing happened, and when I finally got his dog off of mine, the dog followed him. He made no attempt to leash him once the dog caught up either. I feel so bad for responsible APBT owners. There are just so many stupid people with the breed.

I am with the other pit bull owners here. Sorry you had to experience that!
We promise not ALL pit bulls are owned by idiots!!!

And, I agree with Jules and Elegy. It's stupid people like that that are DESTROYING the breed.

Just two weeks ago my pit bull and I were rushed by an off leash lab. There was ALMOST a fight, but the lab pulled away from my dog just in time.
I shook FOREVER after that and I got a headache of the worst kind.

But, again, like Lindsay, I feel a need to apologize for the experiences like this, even though, personally, it wasn't my fault. The things stupid people do to my breed of choice just p!sses me off, though.

I get that on occasion walking Kharma as well. Usually they think better of it when they get within several feet. Not always, though. There's always a dumb one. The neighbor's white GSD finally worked herself out to try to come at Kharma from behind to bite her  BIG mistake. Kharma knocked her halfway across the street. And Kharma holds a grudge . . .

And the thing is, they HAVE a fence! They just leave the big gate across the driveway open all the time - and they have a dog on a chain back there as well. Why not close the gate, keep the dogs safe, AND let the one off the chain?
