At a market the other day, a woman had a booth where she was selling sweet potatoes/yams that had been dehydrated and hung on ropes as dog chews. While I couldn't see spending $8 (ouch) on a sweet potato, it gave me an idea. I went to Petsmart and bought a Kong and I microwaved a sweet potato and dug out the insides and stuffed the Kong and froze it. I have heard of using pumpkin but not sweet potato. I gave my dog a small taste and he loved it. Is sweet potato alright for him? Any other veggies I could use?

Also, is it alright to feed a dog regular potato? For instance a small amount of mashed (minus the extras) inside a kong?

Thanks.

Sweet potato is a good healthy food and regular potatoes are fine too. You can feed any kind of veggie (in moderation), just stay away from onions.

Fruit is great too, like for example melon, apple or banana!

I bake apples and mash it with flaxseed and put it in the kong. I mix it with peanut butter too.
