Honestly, if you think I hang out with the people that aren't preppy because I'm a demon, and you dare call me a poser, and dare try and light me on fire, what the bloody **** do you think I'm going to do?

What ho, this waste of $200 for a school trip, and what ho, this waste of stuff I bought for this **** trip.

That's the way it was when I was in HS too. You have to just lie there and get the crap beat out of you (or in your case get 3rd degree burns) I guess.. Did that other girl get any punishment at all?

And I quote, since Shakespeare is the order of the day.

"...Whether 'tis nobler in the mind to suffer
The slings and arrows of outrageous fortune,
Or to take arms against a sea of troubles,
And by opposing end them?"

...welcome to the club!

If I were you, I would report it to the police, and you definitely need to get your money back.

There was definately a more mature way to handle the situation. Walking away and reporting the situation for instance.
Violence begets violence. There was no reason to physically go at the girl. Sure, she was being an idiot. High School is full of idiots, that is why you behave the best you can and ensure that you report unsociable behaviour.

If someone came at you with a weapon the first thought probably isn't 'What is the most mature way to handle this situation?' lol. In any other sitation I'd agree with you, though.

Sucks. But senior trips can be over rated anyway. Get your money back, ahh!

I wouldn't really call a lighter a weapon...

I do think she over exaggerated. It's not like she was doused in gasoline at the time. She wouldn't have caught fire. I would've just slapped the lighter out of the person's hand instead of slamming the person against a wall.

They should refund the money though, but I would say the suspension stands. You over reacted.

1 - a lighter is not a weapon.
2 - yes, I would have thought about the best way to deal with it. I have been confronted with an acutal weapon when I was at school and I walked away and reported it.
3 - I agree with GO, the punnishment fits the crime. The OP sounds like a very angry person who probably needs to re-evaluate things.

Overreacting would have been to reapeatedly pounding her head into the wall (now that gets you suspended for a LONG time). There is no way I would allow someone to try and harm me, screw that.

No that's criminal assault and attempted homicide.

Worst case scenario for the lighter is what? A burn? Singe mark on some clothing?

Where as slamming someone into a wall? Spinal damage? Concussion?

If someone is throwing punches, then you **** well better defend yourself and would be within your rights to do so.

If someone is coming at you with a lighter, you can react more civilly then slamming the person into a wall.

You are going to be very lucky if the school or the student doesn't decide to press criminal charges against you.
34 people in a room and noone sees the lighter? What happened to "Hey, Teacher she's trying to burn me?"
Why were you on the stage to begin with sounds like the class was participating in an activity????
On the 200.00, here you would be SOL. No refund unless it is Dr. excused illness, death in the family etc...

Both should go (as in leave the ice, be suspended) in this case...
I am only getting one side here and I won't automatically assume that's "all" that went down.

In my school both parties were always suspended in a physical altercation...no exceptions.
