You might be surprised at how many people do lead gainfully employed lives with body modifications. Not everyone is so shallow to think that jewellery placement implies incompetence. 13 piercings including facials ones, 3 microdermals and the City of Toronto employs me. Glad all the parents and other clientele at my ski hill are more open minded.
exactly. I dunno... maybe this is just the rebel in me, but I don't bear in mind jobs so much when it comes to me deciding to do body art (piercings and tattoos). I've seen SO many people with piercings and tattoos and a lot of them with them in places that aren't so easy to hide. All of them also have jobs and not bad paying jobs at that. There are jobs out there that will allow them.

Nape microdermals
Ok I really really love these ones actually

Show me how there is ANY increased risk of infection. I don't get it. Fake nails make a bit more sense, but not much. If it was the press on kind I could see being worried about one dropping off in a procedure. If not there is no risk of infection. Its interesting that you mention infection, anything to back it up?
I was wondering about this too

I don't understand how there would be an increased risk of infection with a doctor, etc....the same standards of hygiene would apply and, even if by some means there was an infection (although I can't recall ever seeing someone with a piercing having some oozing, horrible infection..) unless they were rubbing it upon you..in which case you should probably find another doctor anyway, I don't see the risk... Every doctor I've had has been gloved and pretty hygienic for anything involving contact *shrug*

I think I'd be amused if my doctor had a piercing. As it is, I'm fairly amused that he routinely wears jeans.

I don't have any piercings now and haven't for years. I did have my wrist done years ago and liked it quite a lot. It didn't hurt and worked fine for me for quite some time. (I even worked, in a roundabout way, in the healthcare field..with adults with developmental disabilities;) ) I only took it out when I caught it on my late Chow's fur as he ran out to the yard. It got irritated, so I removed it. I'd have it done again someday if I could find someone to do it..I'm in a different state now and it's not common here. I'd wait until Clive was older though, as he's in a grabby stage

When your standard is not having one vs having one how can there not be an increased risk of infection especially inward traveling bacterial pockets? When the top of this thing is left protruding through the skin how can there not be an ongoing risk?

But since you asked ... let me get that for you.

Let me google that for you

Real risks... A person who has hair is more of a risk to carry things too. In fact I bet pet owners also have more risk. But a healed microdermal is no more risky to another person than any other jewelery. Likely less so.

ACK!! Don't get me even started. Can you say instant head ache when I am in the Dr. office.

I really don't might a slight smell that you can only smell when your really close to a person. But man alive I hate when people plaster it on that you can smell it across the building, YUCK!

I'm confused. You said there's an increased risk of infection with facial piercings and now you're saying that there's more of a risk with microdermals? I don't see how either one is more of a risk than ear piercings, or carrying germs in with you from somewhere else. Plus your lmgtfy link didn't say anything about the increased risks of infection to OTHER people and didn't really turn up any decent links about infection in microdermals at all.

I get the impression that you just don't like piercings and have latched onto this reason/excuse for why you don't like them. Am I wrong?

That is exactly what I got from the useless let me google that for you. The usual eww gross ignorance. It's really no better than the uneducated and uniformed "pit bulls go crazy and kill because their brains grow larger than their skulls."

I bite my cuticles 'till they bleed sometimes. When I was a kid my mom would tell me I was going to get infections (worked in a barn, hands in horse poo) and my fingers would fall off. So far I still have all my digits.... I'm thinking a healthy body wards off way more infection that you would think.

You are free to interpret it any way you like. Personally I'm not fond of them but for most things I fond of I am fine to let people do whatever they like because it doesn't affect me in any way. 98% tattooed... very cool, Eyebrow ring... go for it, tongue stud... absolutely just please put on a face mask if you're my dentist, open portal on your skin... eh... maybe not a great plan imo but as long as you are 100% responsible for yourself and I am not impacted by it in any way if things go south... with my blessing have at.

Just like I as a private employer can choose not to employ smokers, drinkers, and people that just give me a bad vibe. I can also choose to not employ those who decide to do anchor piercings or may choose to not allow people in a medical field who have them to work on me and mine. ^.^ enjoy!

I don't think you have any idea what it is if you think its an open portal. Its far less so than a belly button. It doesn't even get as deep as the fascia, it sits IN the skin, its less of a portal than a piercing.

Its ok for you to choose not to like them, thats fine. But to spout off stuff that is as false as "all (insert breed here) will turn on you" is as offensive to those who DO know what it is, as it is for dog people.

My friend had those, on the side of his eye. He also had dogs, cats, hamsters, rabbits, fish, hedgehogs, rats, etc. and never had any problem with them ever.

I've never had a problem with any of my other piercings. They don't get infections and they don't ever have any pus oozing or nothing of the sort. I don't worry at all about that actually.

Oh speaking of open holes... so I love my lip ring. If I take it out and put water in my mouth and close my mouth I can totally squirt water out of my lip ring hole. HAHAHA! I know that's totally not relevant to this topic really, but that just came to mind.

That's impressive and I think competitions should be hosted to see who can spurt water the farthest.
