I have a seven month old puppy that I adopted from the pound about five months ago. When I adopted her they gave me a bag of Science Diet puppy food. She wouldn't eat this but would eat Pedigree puppy food. Her stool was never really firm and after doing some research on dog foods (including the sites I have seen recommended here) I decided to upgrade the food I fed her.
I live in a very small town and there is only one other place to buy dog food besides the supermarkets, wal-mart, etc. The feed store here carries Science Diet, Iams, and Nutro.
I bought Nutro Natural Choice Puppy food specifically made for puppies with sensitive stomachs and begin gradually switching my puppy over. This resulted in diarrhea and vomiting of yellow frothy mucus. After a trip to the vet it was concluded the puppy has a sensitive stomach and at the vet's recommendation I switched her back to the Pedigree mixed with Hill's Prescription Diet (1/2 and 1/2). No more diarrhea and vomiting and stool is the firmest it has ever been.
I know a lot of you don't put much weight on vet's recommendations regarding dog foods, but basically, I can't afford to try a lot of different dog foods and was wondering if someone might have some recommendations on foods I could order or if I should stick with the Pedigree or what.
Sorry for the long post, but wanted people to know I was trying.
