We have 12 sugar gliders. Out of those I have 5 that I breed. I just wanted to share some pics :)

Family Photo : Daddy Mozart (with the bald spot) and Mommy Venus on bottom. Baby Heaven (on left on Dad) and Baby Button (on right on Mom)

Baby butt coming from Mammy Selkies pouch

This one is a bit blurry but it's Mommy Selkie with both her babies hanging out of her pouch.

Aw! SG are so cute :D.

Is the bald patch normal?

What are the requirements for a breeding SG? Are they at all similiar to dog breeding? Like are there SG shows or anything?

males have the bald spot its completly normal a scent marking spot.

your glides are gorgeous, id love a glider one day, used to have one, miss him, he was such a character.

i dont think there are glider shows but many breeders try and aim for specific markings or colours, temperment and health would be the primary focus.

Yes the bald spot is normal, it is a scent gland. Males also have a scent gland on their chest that gets a bald spot.

There are not SG shows.

For me breeding gliders is about bringing the best babies I can into the world. There are glider rescues, glider mill breeders, glider backyard breeders... all the same horrible things dogs have. So in order to be ok with the fact that I'm bringing lives into an already crowded world I have to breed the best sugar gliders.

We start by only breeding gliders that we have a pedigree on.

Second we breed gliders that are fully bonded to us. They MUST be bonded and tame. We have to be able to get into the pouch to get the babies any time we want. If they are wild or pouch protective (gliders sleep in fleece pouches) they will teach their babies to be wild and pouch protective. Also who really knows how much that stuff is hereditary? I don't so those gliders do not get bred.

Third I wouldn't breed gliders who's offspring (for whatever reason) did not become good pets.

So that's why only 5 of ours are breeding :) The other 7 are great gliders, they just don't have what it takes to be good parents.

I hope I explained that well enough, please feel free to ask if you have anymore questions. Sugar gliders are my favorite subject :)

Very interesting!

I am very curious about breeding and ethics concerning rodents and the like. I keep mice and would love a rat, but don't have the time, as I know they are relateively demanding.

Don't know much about SG's but they seem really cool :).

They are not rodents, they are marsupials. They carry their young in pouches like kangaroo's.

Breeding ethics for sugar gliders is the same as it is with dogs.

Breeding animals should be healthy and live in large cages. They should have a good quality of life (glider safe wheel and fun toys!). Baby gliders should be bred for the best temperment. I do not believe it is ethical to allow gliders who have mean babies to continue to breed.

If you ask me specific questions I'd be happy to answer.

id love to see pictures of your cage setups, over the years ive seen some awsome setups for large numbers of gliders, one guy gave them a whole room with glider safe live trees to climb and knaw on, and vines and all sorts of toys.

again, very nice looking Suggies

This is my cage set up. My smallest cages are 30 inches wide x 18 inches deep x 36 inches tall. My gliders can not all live together, they would kill each other.

Currently I have 5 cages with gliders and I'm getting a new breeding pair in June. Siren and Pixie were rehomed and Cater went back where I got him and Vega is now with Drake and Phoenix. All of my pet males (four) are neutered. Spaying females is extremely dangerous so to retire a breeding pair the male is neutered.

I have a pop up tent that I use as a safe out-of-cage-time place.

My website is www.tnrgliders.com

Again, if you have any more questions feel free to ask.

Too cute! I have wanted one forever but I have never seen one by me except in a pet shop.

And OMG! your in ne Ohio? were? AHHHH! If the house wasn't getting redone I would be all over you right now:p

give me a couple months and I will definately be getting a hold of you:D

I keep hearing different things about if two is better than one. Of course the petstore says buy as many as you can get but someone at the petstore with one told me once that they had been told by a "real breeder(whatever that means)" that they were better alone. So is it better to get two at once,do they need to be about the same age when introduced etc?

Your gonna be answering a million questions from me:lol-sign:
