You want the second type. The first ones.. well I think they are for pulling out undercoat. Where as the second type help you yank out the hair.

Yep, the top ones are for getting out the undercoat. I use one on the non-shaved cocker backs ;) (different brand, though)

bahhhhh! the 2nd ones are backordered until 4/1!!!

and Brattina, I checked that 2nd link... but they don't have pictures or any real description of the stripping knives... I don't really feel comfortable buying something I can't see a picture of.

I want a video... will help me with Wash.

btw, both dogs are going to hate me... my order was $59, but you need $60 to avoid a $7 service charge... i didn't need anything else and didn't feel like browsing thru the whole site for something cheap... so I bought blue nail polish....

For information on Hand Stripping I would highly recommend Jodi Murphy's DVD. I would also advise against the backorder knives as they are not the best quality anyway. Mars, the same company that makes the Coat King, makes amazing stripping knives. I would also highly recommend finding someone to teach you. Although the DVD will give you great information, there's a certain amount of fineness to it that you just need to have someone physically show you. Good luck and have fun!

Actually I have found stripping a JRT to to be very easy. Particularly with anyone who has had any mane pulling experience. With the really coarse hair I can't say I found any difference between my mars stripping knife (which I lost) and the el cheapo one I have now in ease of use or quality of job. Now if I was using it on say a cocker I could see the difference.

With the terriers you are ripping out the hair (sounds nasty but my guys lie on my lap for me to do it so I can't be that bad) and the knife just saves your fingers... you don't even really need a knife. That said Wash has softer hair and it won't strip as easily as his mom's.

Thanks for the info Dekka! I've been taught for ages the only ones to buy where the Mars, but if cheaper ones work well that's what I'll be getting when I need my replaced.
