Our 5 yr old dog has been house broken for several years. Most of the time he goes out doors but recently he has started to occasionally wet the carpet in our Master BR which is on the way to the Master Bath where there is a doggie door. Help.

Has he been to the vet since this started? If a 5 yr old suddenly starts having "accidents", it could be a sign of a problem and he should be checked out. Things like bladder infections, urinary crystals/bladder stones, to even more serious things like kidney disease and diabetes could cause this. Of course, it could easily be behavioral, but you should always rule out the health problems first.

I agree with going to the vet for a checkup. When you go, bring a urine sample with you.

Well a sudden change of Behavior may
be caused by environment changes like
change in carpet or change in furniture
arrangement. Find the cause and problem solved.
Otherwise visit the Vet.

Usually when a dog has been potty trained for a long time and then suddenly starts having accidents, it is a medical problem. So the first thing I would suggest is to get your dog a physical from the vet just to rule out any Urinary Tract Infections or kidney problems.

At the same time, I'd suggest cleaning the spot where he tends to go on the carpet with a good pet stain remover - Nature's Miracle is one of the best. Make sure to use a lot of the cleaner on the spot, because there's a good chance the pee has soaked through to the carpet pad. A good cleaner will remove the smell which is what attracts a dog to pee in the same place again and again.

Does he pee on the floor at around the same time every day? Where are you when he pees on the floor? ;)

Does you dog tell you when he is about to go? I would strongly suggest that you go see a vet. There could be an underlying bladder/kidney problem if he has already been housebroken.

Hi, I also think that you have to turn to the vet (all we suggest the same ...so..you have too) ;) ..my 7 years-old dog had problems, not with peeing at home, but he some time "couldn't see" the gate, and when he is back from the street he was always hitting his head to the gate..it turns out that he has some problems with coordination. so it will be better to turn to the vet. hope everything will be ok!!!
