We just got a new pup (http://www.chazhound.com/forums/showthread.php?t=56471) so I decided I wanted to try clicker training.

Last night we picked one up from the pet supply store and I started working it. I only loaded/charged it for a short period of time. He (Romeo) seemed to catch on really quick. In no time I had him following me around sitting trying to get a click out of it. Today I started to get him to 'touch' my hand with his nose, it only took a few minutes for him to get the hang of that. I now have him sitting by command and/or hand signal, and chasing my hand to touch it. I try c/t him very often whenever he is just being good basically. He even tries to go pee more than once, even though nothing comes out just to try to get a c/t. lol!

It is very interesting to see how focused the dogs get when they doing a 'training session' with the clicker. They just seem perplexed the entire time.

Unfortunately my 1+ year old chihuahua isn't catching on as quick as the 8week old rottie lol. I'm betting on the fact that if he watches the pup do it enough he will catch on.

Adorable puppy. Such a sweet little face. Take loads and loads and then more pictures (daily is good). LOL.

I've never used clicker training until we got our new pup Jordan a few months ago. I was skeptical because we've never done it before but willing to give it a try because it is what our trainer was going to use. We use it for formal training sessions but also use the word "yes" if the clicker is unavailable. He'll respond to both. I've also noticed some interest from our 13 year old mutt so don't give up on Boss yet. She's often sleeping when we do formal training work but if she is exceptionally awake a day she'll gladly sit right in on training and oddly enough that is the only time she'll do a command. (She was never trained and I don't do much to bother after 13 years honestly).

Congrats on Romeo. I hope your family and Boss enjoy him and Boss can live up to his name.

YAY I love clicker training. I use it on all our dogs (rescues too) for obedience, agility, and general manners. It is such a powerful tool. Just remember, you get what you click.

Yeah, we are definitely a picture family so that's good. Before we got the clicked we used 'good-boy!' and everytime he'd hear that he'd come running for a treat. So I think that made it easier to transition to the clicker. Somehow the clicker just seems to work so much better though, and plus the fact that saying 'good-boy!' over and over gets tiring! lol

It's so true, both my dogs now follow me around the house sitting, lol!
