I'm fostering a rooster. My foster has consistently woken up everyone up in the apartment (hopefully not our neighbors too ) at the crack of dawn every morning since I got him. He doesn't do it because he has to pee or anything. I know this because I have come downstairs to let him out and watch him and he doesn't pee just waits to come back in again. I don't want to train him that every time he barks I come downstairs, but at the same time don't want to let him continue barking while he wakes everyone up! I'm wondering if a spray collar would be a good way to stop this behavior? If anyone has used this with success (or failure) or has any other suggestions please share!

I've used citronella collars on many a dog (they were a requirement for any barking dog at the kennel I used to work at) with great success. As long as you know it's just attention barking I say it's worth a shot.

What kind of dog is your foster? If the bark is too high pitched it won't get off a regular citronella collar so instead you should look into the Spray Commander which has a remote control so you can get him from your room.

The best cit collar by far is the one made by Premier. PetEdge has them for a pretty good price.

Thanks for advice, will try to experiment with that! :)
Dog - mittelschnauzer, bark pitch is not high, not low... the middle!

Iveta, do you have a clock or anything that goes off at a certain time?

I have a grandfather clock that starts going off at 6 AM. In the early spring they would wait until it went off at 7 AM to start barking but now that the sun is up early, the minute it starts going off at 6 they start barking.

there's no clock ... but maybe something else could cause this, need to think, but yes, usually it's +/- the same time!

I am confused. You're fostering a rooster and the dog is barking? Or your problem is with the rooster crowing?

Or do you have one of these? :D

LOL!! Love that picture. :D
I was confused too...Rooster or dog? Made no sense until I read it about three times. You mean your dog is waking up at dawn like a rooster, right?
