I was just wondering what everybody's opinon on spiked collars was. Personally I don't like them at all. They look cool but can severly hurt the dog that is wearing them. I wonder how long it is going to take the doberman in the picture to hurt himself. The doberman is not mine I just found the pic on the internet.

On dogs? Not so much.

On hot punker chicks (or my wife after a couple glasses of wine)? ABSOLUTELY! :D

Seriously...those OMG HARSH SPIEKS!!1! like in the picture are just friggin dumb. The low spiked (studded) collars are o.k. though...especially on a little poofy dog.

I'll probably get JTWD one for this summer so she can look all harsh and bad while she chases her tail.

Those long spikes are just foolish - and they just play into that "bad breed" bushwa that's out there.

I'll have to find my photo of the big blue cat I had for many years, Gonzo, in the spiked collar I had made for him . . . It was a hoot to watch people's faces when I had him out on a leash with that collar on, but he'd earned it. There was a Doberman in the neighborhood that had bitten a couple of people and just generally terrorized everyone (he had a huge 6' chain link fenced in yard, but the owners thought it was funny to let him run loose  ). Animal control wouldn't even pick him up. The dog liked to run up to the ground level window where Gonzo took his afternoon nap in the sun and throw himself against the window, snarling and barking. Gonzo got out one day - he had a plan; ambushed that sucker and tore him a new one. Dog stayed home after that. I would have felt a little sorry for him getting hurt, although it wasn't anything a few stitches didn't make right, but it probably saved his life since sooner or later someone was going to kill that dog.

And that's how Gonzo earned his spiked collar! :D

BG!!!! Glad to see you back!

I have never seen the point in them either when they are on a dog except the low profile ones. Its just the long spikes that I don't like. I wear A long spiked one to hard rock concerts every now and then. I agree that they are the bad breed helpers too.

I know someone who has a Rottie pup and her previous owners had her wearing a spike collar. The new owner purchased a new collar--a nice nylon, red buckle collar. She doesn't want her dog to have that aggressive image that Rotties have.

Personally, I would not have my dogs wearing spike collars. They've got good strong nylon collars, which work perfectly well, are strong and cheaper priced. One is a buckle the two others clip closed. If left on under supervision and just for fun, not to make the dog look "vicious" or anything I don't mind, but I personally wouldn't leave one on my dogs all day long without complete supervision. No way.

i dont really like the idea of spiked collars so i bought my dog one with studs on instead, its gives the same affect as spikes but safer i'd say :)

I don't like the long sharp ones. I have one for Zeus with short blunted spikes that he wears every once in awhile but i never leave it on him just because i get paranoid that he will get hurt. I actually got it as a joke from my sister when I very first got Zeus since he was so shy and scared of everything she handed it to me saying for that viciouse Pit of yours lol. Any other time of day though he wears his black nylon coller. You can see his coller in my sig you can see that their not very long at all.

The one on that Dobe is ridiculas its for looks and not for the dog itself its just to make the dog look "cool" or "mean" but thats not even why these collers were brought about in the first place. They were actually created in the past for herding dogs to protect their necks if a predator came and a fight insued. Now that makes since but nowadays like I have said it is just for show.

If he did scrach his ears he woulden't scratch them again. I'm sure it did the job too. The two collars in the pictures are Turkish made. I found the pics on a site somewhere but seem to have misplaced the link.

I dont like spiked collars. When i have to pull apart dogs when they get in fights, spiked collars can really hurt.

Heh. I have one like that for ME, I got it at a show a few months ago.. Wouldn't dream of putting it on my boys, though, too easy for them to hurt someone/something, or themselves, with it.

I can see the need that herding dogs had for them quite a long time ago, but I doubt many would need them anymore. They're just for show. (Read: Some "tough-guy's" ego booster)
