I'd love to!! we used to have a rescued lab/ greyhound(HUGE!!) but he was too aggressive. We had to have him put down as we couldnt get him over that hurdle. Man that kid never came near Charlie...lol.

~Sighs~ Still waiting for AC to show up...

I'd utilize both Animal Control and local Law Enforcement until the issue is resolved. By doing so, you're well within the law and it reduces the likelihood of any litigation which the "charming" mother may bring against you. Best of luck and do keep us informed of any further developments.

^I know why your not truly proud of pressing charges, but think of it this way. You either feel like a bit of a bitch for doing it, or your absolutely devastated when your dog bites the kid and you have to put them down.

It's definitely a parents thing. Kids go by my house all the time and "bark/growl" at Roxy. What's funny is when she flips out and looks like she's going to go through the screen door and I start screaming like the crazy lady down the street! Their gone!!!! lol.

I hope you get everything figured out.

It's sounds like something bad is going on at home for this little kid. Obviously he doesn't have the greatest family in the world...maybe he's being abused?? Whatever it is, he needs help or he'll turn out to be a sociopath.

Ok animal control just left. they told me that they will speak with the parents and I see them over there now.

I was told to call AC tommorow as the man from AC now needs to go speak to his supervisor as this is a very unique case- due to the age of the child.

I'd love to hose the brat and am entertaining thoughts of doing so...l but honestly I probably won't. He is just a child. But man I can think it!!!

Yes I've spoken to neighbors and think we all should go over there soon but right now one of them is recuping from a massectomy.

PS

My husband said the same thing about borrowing a 12 yr old to straighten him out! Lol...

You're doing the right thing!! I don't think a child that young is jut born deciding that they'll hurt animals...I also think something is going on at home.

here's what i would do. go confront the mother, face to face, one last time. tell her, in a way she WILL understand, that if her son EVER comes in your yard or harms your dogs (or attempts to) again you will call animal control and the police and her son will be taken away for animal abuse and parental neglect. (whether it's true where you live or not is beyond the point, but some FEAR into her by God!)
after that, go about your normal day. if it happens again, grab the kid by the arm, bring him to his mother and tell her that this was her last chance and your calling the cops and animal control NOW. go inside, get your phone and make the calls where she see's you doing it. when you call the cops tell them that you would like to file a harassment charge against your neighbors and their son and you would also like to file a trespassing charge against them. the cops will have to come because you want to file the charges and they'll need to talk to the neighbors. call animal control next...tell them that a 4 yr old boy is abusing your dogs and could they (AC) come by and talk to the mother about this (also that he's doing the same to the neighbors dogs). THEN, call Dept of Family Services. tell them that a 4 yr old child is being allowed to run loose into other peoples yards, torment/torture/beat other people's dogs and the parents are being neglectful. have the neighbor call Dept of Family Services as well....they'll have 2 calls saying the same thing and will have to send someone to investigate the childs living situation.

if you have a video camera, take it with you if you think he'll be outside. the second he makes a move towards your dogs, turn the camera on and get it on tape. then you will have indisputable proof of what's going on and SOMEONE will get it then.

ok, so AC has already come...but the other stuff i'd still do as well.

i had problems with a neighbors dachsund attacking my Lab pup (when he was only 8 1/2 wks old). the guy sat there and WATCHED and was to fat and lazy to do anything but say "buddy, come here buddy". anyways, i told the property manager if it happens again i was calling animal control, plus there is a leash law. she said she'd been trying to get the dog on a leash for TWO YEARS!!! he was loose again, i called AC....one more time, called and emailed AC and local police. AC came out and talked with the guy (dog was loose when they showed up :) ) and the dog hasn't been out since. i don't know what they said, or if the guy decided to put him out back or what...but he's not loose bothering/attacking me and my dogs or anyone elses.
Persistance pays off in the end.

Your poor puppy! Good for you, for you for telling fatso what's what!

All I do know, is that this is not typical 4 yr old behavior!!

I just got off of the phone with CPS and they are logging a complaint and sending someone over to talk to the parents tommorow.

CPS told me that what's probably going to happen, is that the kid won't be allowed outside anymore without supervision...like that worked so well last time!!!!! Grrrr..oh well it is probably just gonna get worse before it gets better...

Don't worry Moonchild, it'll work out. Just be persistent, and remember to keep giving warnings.

The CPS just told me over the phone, that they are going to
assign it an early behavior intervention nurse. They are to come out with an interpreter for Russian.

Past that they said they don't know what to do. Maybe call the police she said...Nice eh? Hhmmm that's where I started and didn't get anywhere....

Oh, Moonchild, I hope this straightens out for you and your pups soon!

At least there is on record what is going on. It shouldn't be too long now before something is done to correct this. Keep us updated!!

((hugs)) Our thoughts are with you ;)

This child is as much a victim as anyone here. So I personally don't think its appropriate to call him a little $h!t or anything else. He's only 4 after all. This is all his parents fault. Hosing his parents would perhaps be more appropriate?

Just a question here.... when you talk to the mother... are you certain that she can understand you?

This is such a sad thread... I agree with all who have posted . This child does need intervention. I do hope things work out for him besides fostering. As posted ... keep records... be kind, but be vigilante.

What if you tried to talk to the kid about what he is doing? This child has clearly grown up with a very corrupt family and that is no fault of his own. I'd sit him down and explain exactly why it is wrong to treat animals (or anything) in this manner. Explain that not only is the dog at a risk of getting hurt, he is too. Don't be polite, and I wouldn't even be nice to this hellian, however education is usually better than getting fiesty.

I never had that problem with Chico, but then again a 90lb Dobie can be a little intimidating to kids, Chico's probably taller than that little brat.

First if a Child or anyone EVER kicked or hit my dog I would take a deep breath (cause if I don't I would seriously hurt someone), tell them to leave us alone or I will call the police. If they persist I would grab the nearest stick or rock and lunge it at them. I was defensing MYSELF, from a little brat who proceeded to kick me. Thats BS that the police won't take you seriously. I would be in that police station harrassing the hell out of them until they decided to investigate my problem. I don't care how old this person is, what he is doing is wrong and he should know better, I knew how to treat animals with respect since I was 2, and if I was caught pulling a dog's tail (I was a little and didn't know any better) I got the sh!t whooped out of me, and I learned real fast how to treat animals.

Just keep ypur dogs close to you and prevent them from defending themselves. Your dogs SHOULD be able to defend themselves but with the laws and crap the dog will always loose. Its unfortunate because most dog attacks are provoked and the dog was put down for defending themselves, which IMO, they should have the right to. People expect too much from dogs and expect them to allow any type of abuse, but they are ANIMALS. Instinct CANNOT be trained out of a dog, it can be controlled but will never be extinct in a dogs mind.

The difference is that you had parents who taught you right from wrong. The boy doesn't. It doesn't really make sense to blame the child. This is entirely his parents fault.
