Well, im on craigslist, toturing myself with pets I can have, as usual
and find an ad for "young female german shepherd, black w/brown paws" and I click the ad, and right there are 5 pictures of KENYA! they are recent (from the pictures at the park thread) and this is the only place they had been posted, so I guess the person got them off here!

the ad goes:

Young female german shepherd, knows commands, potty trained, very friendly. champion parents, must rehome due to baby
isn't she beautiful? she is AKC purebred! she is super sweet
her name is beauty
fee is $500

**** right shes beautiful! shes my dog! and her name is not beauty!
I send them a VERY angry email, and got no response but the ad was thankfully taken down!

Im so pissed!

well word of caution to all members.. watermarks and that kind of thing for your photography is important!

Maybe their dog looked like her so they used the pictures or maybe it was a scam but regardless, very rude of them to just take them!

oh wow! That's....... just plain creepy!
Reminds me of the time that somebody took Finnegan's pictures and made a myspace account with them :S Some people just have too much time on their hands I guess. Good thing you caught it! Weird that they even posted it in your area's craigslist

WOW! That is crazy!
This happens to good breeders, BYB's will take their photos and represent quality animals as their own. It is bad.
That is the only reason I mark my photos, I am scared they will end up in the wrong hands.

I've thought about marking photos, but it's so easy to 'shop out watermarks that I just quit bothering. If you mark them large enough to be 'safe' it destroys the overall image, making sharing the photos kind of pointless.

Sorry someone did that to you!

Oh wow... I bet it was a scam by someone trying to get $500. The old trick where someone says, "Thanks for the money, let me get the dog, it's in the back of my van" and they drive off with your money.

Holy smokes!
I'm glad you sent them an email and they took it down.
Hell I don't blame you for being pissed!

sammgirl, it's not a danger of being part of a forum. It's a general risk anywhere on the internet. Or actually anywhere in public.

For someone to do that, they are violating copyright laws. Watermarking is fine and wonderful, but before putting anything out in public, it's good to familiarize with the laws applicable to copyrights and how to protect what you've written, photographed, videoed, etc.

That's so wierd!! I hope if Sierra ever ended up somewhere out there on the internet (not by me) *someone* would catch it and alert me. Was this on your local Craigslist, so you caught it yourself?

I've had someone use one of my puppy photos for their artwork on ebay. Only the 'work' was collages of photographs and my puppy was the center photo.

Here's the thing: it's the internet. You get all types and all sorts of scams and such, and not much you can do about it.

You can watermark, people will remove them. It's super easy to remove watermarks - I did it once just to see if I could, and it was a rather complicated one - so writing all over your photos and de-prettifying them doesn't do much.

Like Jess said, someone is parading Finnegan around MySpace claiming that they are "him", to roleplay with other dog owners pretending to be their dogs.

I've sent three ignored emails to MySpace to have the photos removed - I could care less now. If they really feel that they have to use someone else's dog photos to roleplay with other dog people, then that's their shortcoming. People know it's not me, since I would never do something so stupid.

I've had my art stolen and traced, and photos "borrowed" by folks - even direct-linking, which is almost fun because I can change links around on them and break everything. :p You gotta take it all with a grain of salt - once it's on the internet, it's likely to happen.

A lot of websites have that thing where you cant even right click or copy anything.. maybe you should try that allie?

You try to click or copy or drag and a message comes up about the copyright policy

Umm, eww?

(Though Finnegan is a gorgeous dog. Maybe he should be flattered. :))
