Yesterday when I came home from work, hubby claimed that he was just let the dog in (from their outside pen), gave them each a cookie, then he went to take a shower, when he came out, he saw a large puddle on our bed!. :yikes: Obviously one of the dogs had peed on it!! :( There are so many things wrong with this picture, I just don't know what to make of it.

First of all, my dogs are not allowed on our bed, and they know it very well. Even when invited to come up, they are reluctant as if they know it's off their limit.

Secondly, once housebroken, they have never had any accident inside the house!! So as far as yesterday, they have been very dependable. I've leave them inside for up to 6 hours before without any accidents. This time, it was less than 30 minutes, and they just came from outside!!

So, even though I saw the mess with my own eyes, I just couldn't picture Mocha, nor Missy, nor Muffin jumping up on the bed, and peeing on it!! Argh!.

I'm so confused. Is this mean one of them is sick? or upset about something? or suddenly they'll all need to be potty-trained again or what??

Since none of us saw it when it happened, we didn't know who was to blame, and how to correct it, most importantly, how to make sure it never happens again.

Any ideas?

It could be a lot of things. The excitement of your husband coming home, then right away disappearing into the shower, some kind of insecurity, a bladder infection. I don't think all is lost as far as their training. I would watch them a little more carefully, keep the door closed so they can't get on the bed unsupervised....make sure hubby isn't greeting them with too much excitement, just a normal, calm greeting. For a while, I'd just watch them more closely than usual, lock them up somewhere if you can't watch....just feel it out for a week or two. If there are more accidents, I'd get a vet appt. just to make sure. Sometimes these things happen with pets and it's just an isolated incident here and there. So, just hang in there for a bit and watch. Hope it clears up.

Awww....I'm so sorry. I also agree that it's probably an isolated incident, but I would certainly keep an eye on them for any other accidents in case something might be physically wrong with one of them. (((((HUGS))))))

Just a comment of no dogs on the bed. We have the same rule. We don't allow it. Dog's know that we don't allow it. IMPORTANT: Dog's know that WE don't allow it. Meaning, if we're around, no dogs on the bed.

Our computer used to be in the basement. Our house is sectioned off with baby gates, keeping young chewing dogs in the kitchen when not supervised. I would leave the older dogs upstairs, with access to the livingroom, hallway and bedrooms and go down and check my email. Every time I slid the keyboard tray drawer in, I would hear a thump coming from upstairs. Then one day, I heard two thumps.

Okay, the dogs know the rule - I do not allow dogs on the bed. Well, the key is I do not allow.... if I'm not there, I'm not there to not allow it, am I? Trouble and Skye, ever opportunistic as dogs are, would hear me pull the keyboard tray out to start my time on the computer, and would jump on the bed. As soon as they heard that keyboard tray slide back into place, they would jump off the bed, and be in their spots on the floor.

Sigh.

As for peeing on the bed - no more dogs in the bedroom without supervision. As for the actual peeing right after they come in.... What were the dogs doing before then? If they were lazing around having their afternoon naps, well, of course they needed to pee. In their excitement that someone was home they can forget to pee when they wake up and greet you. As we all know, just because a dog was just outside does not mean he just went pee. :)

sometimes dogs view the bed as something entirely different from the rest of the house. it's the place of honor, the alpha only being able to sleep on it. it's a place that smells more like you than anything in the house. i've read of dogs suffering separation anxiety that have entirely dug a hole in the center of a mattress to get closer to the scent. back when i had my rottie, and she would be in an obnoxious mood, she would run downstairs, jump on my bed and roll around in it and start digging in the centre of it. if i wasn't paying attention to her, she would do this and then eat stuff off my nightstand. it was like her way of telling me what she thought of my behavior.

if a dog just has to pee badly, and knows better, i doubt they would choose the highest place of honor to do so.

the mattress has been Victor's only target..three of them, both sides. The last time when i took a friend's male dog home in THE CAR:yikes: If i leave him in the rest of the house with the door shut to the bedroom he disturbs nothing. NOw maybe i know why. Thanks for your post. AND Yeah right down the center is right, a three foot trench in the last one. Boy he was mad i took Butch home.

I know for the fact that they know they are not allowed on the bed, and follow it without fails (well, at least not until yesterday, :() that's why this incident was extremely out of ordinary. Once Missy & Mocha tossed the ball around playing with each other, and it happened to land on the bed. They circled around it, stood on their hindlegs, & leaned their body on the bed, so they could reach the ball, when all failed, they barked to get out attention, so that we could come in and get the ball for them. ( I watched them from outside just to see if they would jump up, but it seemed like they tried everything but to jump on the bed to get it. I was so proud of them then)

What bugged me is that this is the same routine that happens everyday. My husband said he didn't do anything different - the dogs knew he was inside the bathroom, and would come back out.

The only explanation I could come up with is that one of them really really needed to pee so badly, so he/she did it inside, but why on our bed & not on the floor next to the door (I would assume they came to the door and waited to be let out like normal, and when they couldn't be let out, they'd pee right there??)

Are you sure your dogs never took any Cat courses?

Well that solves it then. It was your husband. I say take him to an obedience/housebreaking refresher course ASAP. These things can escalate.

I bet it was your hubby...

just too embarrassed to admit he had a nap gone bad!!!
^^ Sounds like a reasonable explanation to me ;) :D Its probably why he took a shower..

Just so he would have an alibi :p

Hahaha, you guys are too much! Leave her poor husband alone :D

M&M, one time when Orson was oooh, about 6-7 months old he went through a stage where he had to be in between my husband and I all the time. So once we were snuggled together on the couch and Orson didn't like it. He tried barking, he tried climbing between us but my husband blocked him. This went on for about 10 minutes or so.
He finally left the room. We thought he gave up and went to be with the kids in the family room.............WRONG!

Then we heard him trotting back down the stairs. There is a pocket door to the office where the stairway is located.....normally kept closed. We went to see what he may have gotten into being upstairs unsupervised...................

He had went into our room and PEED on my husbands side of the bed for revenge!! (funny to me, but not so much to my husband!) This was the only time, he has never done anything like that before or after. He also doesn't have to be between us everytime anymore either......So maybe a touch of revenge is necessary every now and then :lol-sign:

Double check with your hubby to make sure he didn't tick one of them off!
