The search and rescue was actually part of a large animal emergency response training session. It was pretty cool. Along with the search and rescue, we got to watch a horse and llama be "rescued" from a hole, be part of a mock barn fire (in which they filled the barn with fake smoke), and see an overturned trailer. The search and rescue was pretty exciting because a few of us interns got to play "lost" for the searchers with two horses and a llama. When we were found, we had a little scenario to play out, so one of us pretended to be a head trauma patient, we had a few passers by, and I got to be the rude media photographer who wouldn't get out of the way.

Once all of the people were dealt with, the trainees had to catch the "escaped" horse and deal with the horse with a "broken leg."

Keep in mind that all of the animals involved are trained for these teaching units, so no animals were actually hurt or in any danger at any point in time.

and we have an "escaped" horse! (silly horse actually had to be chased away because all he wanted to do was stand beside us and eat).

And the other horse is down!

all hitched up

and now to drag him to safety

Then yesterday, I had the day off, so Boo and I went out and did some exploring. We went to the dog park that I recently discovered via the chaz meetup and eventually made our way down to a local dam. She was such a good girl! I found a loose dog while at the dam and walked him back with us. Turns out his owners let him wander (apparently without ID tags??) so he wasn't actually lost. They said he was a chinook, but he looked more like a chow mix to me. Can chinooks be fluffy? Every picture I've seen shows a short/medium haired dog, but this guy was fluffier than Boo. Super sweet dog, but unfortunately no photos because with two dogs and one leash, I didn't have an extra hand.

Boo got to meet my boyfriend's dog. They promptly decided to ignore each other. I couldn't get either one to happily pose.

And then we took Boo to the dog park.

ooh and I bought Boo a lifejacket for 5 bucks at the thrift shop. Think I can convince an 8 year old dog that doesn't like to go above her chest in water to swim!? :p I just couldn't help myself. The deal was too good!

DONE.
