Here the petstores sell "rodents" so they dont like for you to bring your dog for fear of the "rodents" getting eaten.

I may end up going to either Wal-Mart or Tractor Supply Co for a crate.

Remember as the customer you are always right. If the store wants to make a sell, then they dont ask questions, they just give you your product and take your hard earned cash.

Petsmart here is actually nice. They walk up to you with a smile on their face, "Do you need any help?"
If you say no thanks, they just say ok, but let me know if you need anything, and then they walk past you or ask another customer.
Sometimes they will even give you free dog treats, the good kind, not the crappy kind.I've seen that before with other customers that brought their dogs, but we shouldnt take Wendy because she gets REALLY excited around other dogs LOL!

I've been in a similar situation. Only I was looking for a working dog formula for the boys that didn't contain chicken (which is proving to be rather difficult). The lady kept trying to convince me that that didn't exist simply because she couldn't find any and then tried to convince me to just use puppy food instead...

I agree... I can deal with the rudeness... just not the stupid people (not all, but a lot) that they have there. I deal with stupid people going thru drive thru fast food chains all the time, but I don't want a 17 year old, who has no knowlege (hard facts) on training, nutrition, behavior, etc..., trying to tell me how to "work" pets. Granted, they have no idea what I know, and I never tell them, but I part of me would love to "blast" them. I just sit back and snicker... They may mean well, and I am sure they do. It's the people who "train" them that has to go. In Reno, they just opened up another PetSmart next to the "old" PetCo. Now Petco just "re-did" their store to keep up with the competition. I like the fact that they "allow" rescue organizations to come in, but what's up with the parrots, birds (there is a difference), reptiles, frogs, arachnids, fish, ferrests etc...and others...????????

yea animalbiz, i dont understand why they sell birds, reptiles, and all the rest either. i feel bad for them, especially the birds/parrots. they just sit in cages all day, and one bird (at the petsmart i work at) gary i think his name is has a pretty big cage all to himself, but he still never gets to come out and just hang out. i guess there is a rule at petsmarts that the employees arent allowed to handle them, i guess except for the ones who clean the cages once a day. the woman that works in our specialty department takes the mice out and lets them sit in her tshirt pocket sometimes, but she said she really isnt supposed to be carrying them around. and then if there are any animals sick, they have to be put in this itty bitty back room in another really small cage until who knows, i dont know if they actually have some kind of vet come and look at them or what they do. once, a few months ago there was something wrong with the hamsters, (some disease that was reported in michigan i think where a woman got the disease from the hampster that she bought from a petsmart, something along those lines) and all of our hamsters were put back in the vet area (we dont have a banfield at ours) for days and i think someone finally came and picked them up. im not totally sure what happened to them after that, but im sure it wasnt good.
and, i also feel bad for the cats that the rescue has at the store. we have the humane society and action for animals that keep cats at our store all the time, day and night every day. they really get no attention either. the only time i see them ever able to be out of the cage is when someone is interested in them and gets to hold them for a few minutes, but we dont have a room where they can let the cat down and play with it, or when the adoption people come and clean the litter boxes and such, and even then they are just out long enough to be put in an empty cage so they can clean the one that theyre in. and the cages always reak. the kittens i really feel bad about because i am sure they have lots of energy and they have no where to play or do anything but eat, poop, and sleep.

I have known a lot of petco and petsmart chains.... Some have the "adoption days" and then if the pet is not adopted, they go back to the foster homes where they are cared for. I lately have seen a few chains that "keep" the kittens at the store at all times. I think that these 2 chains kinda started out to "do the right thing," but then took a 2nd look at the profit margin and went over the line.
My worst moment in Petsmart was way back, about 7 years ago. I was training a Tritan Cockatoo, any way this parrot had a some issues that we were working out of her, I got her as a rescuse and she was abused. Anyway, parrots now come with a "ring" around their legs that have numbers and such saying they are not wild caught, but bred. (just another sad breeding story), anyway, I had an out door stage in Atlanta, so I wanted a type of leash so she could come out and not get spooked and fly away. We wanted our parrots not clipped. Anyways, this 16 year old started telling me (she had no idea who I was or what I did for a living), but she started telling me how inhumane it was, why did I want a leash for my parrot....although they sell leashes for dogs, cats and ferrets. I kinda told her off, spoke the the dumb ass manager, and went to Wal-Mart, got a fishing type hook that looks like a safety pin and some hard twine. I made it 3 feet long. After 2 weeks, I didn't need the "leash" anymore. She was bonded and didn't want to leave. After years and years of fun with her, she is now retired and lives with another trainer in L.A. that used to work with me. Spolid brat, but a good brat.
