Another post just reminded me of what happened yesterday..

Well here is what happened .

My wife and I were walking around the neighborhood with Demi. I noticed a little dog (min poodle maybe) that looked like it was off leash, but I wasn't sure, about 100 feet away. So I decided that we should probably take our time getting there, just to see if it's owner was going to put it on the leash or inside.. Well after 10 minutes the dog was still there. We proceeded to move to the opposite side of the road to keep our dog as far away from the little dog as possible. I had Demi in a Heel and she wasn't even bothered by the little guy..

The owner was standing there near the dog, but of course when we walked by it got curious and started walking across the street towards us. And yep, you guessed it.. a car was coming around the turn..

I jumped in the road and started waving my hands to get the cars attention so that she would stop and she did...

The owner never said anything to us.. She just gave me the most hatefull look, like it was our fault because we shouldn't have been walking by with our dog at this time.

God forbid that owner would pay attention to the little dog. Good thing you stopped the car before hitting the dog. I believe I would have said something to the other owner. Idiot person.

YUCK! I've dealt with similar situations... but nothing like that! The one time that sticks out is when I still lived near Chicago - a well groomed Chow kept following Mojo and I for a couple of our walks over the span of 2 weeks. He would follow us for up to 6 blocks... and he would not shoo! He wasn't aggressive... he was just the proverbial little lamb. ;) He had no tags, no collar, but was very well fed and well groomed. I figured he had gotten out of his yard or something.

Good for you for caring more about that little dog than his owner! And unfortunately, saying something probably wouldn't have changed anything (except to make you feel better.)

I can't understand these people either. We had an idiot neighbor would deliberately let her little yappy Yorkie out to antagonize people walking their dogs past her house. We lived in a cul-de-sac and that dog would harry the walkers all the way out of the court.

I know it was deliberate because she did it to me once. I'd been watching and had seen the little monster go back in the house before I took one of my dogs out to do some obedience work. Sam was just beginning obedience and he was extremely dog-aggressive although he was a sweetheart with people. Anyway, I'd just started practicing his heeling when that fishwife let the Yorkie out again! I wound up dragging Sam backwards across the court while the Yorkie made feint attacks at us. Sam was beside himself and I managed to lob a few sweetgum balls at the Yorkie to keep him away. The woman came flying out of her house and screamed at me for throwing 'rocks' at her dog. By this time, I was as livid as Sam and I exchanged a few opinions with the idiot.

You know what her best line was? As she stood in the middle of the street, holding her dog in her arms, she screamed that her dog never leaves her yard. All I could do was laugh at her after that and she stormed off. Thank heavens she moved away six months later!

P.S. Sam passed his Novice Obedience class (only took three trys). I was so proud of him during the long sits and downs, he kept his eyes on me the entire time.
