Some dog breeds just don't need to be shaved...

People here shave everything..even labs:confused:

When I first brought Aesop home, we went to the pet store and someone asked 'oh, having him shaved?' Ah...no. They were all baffled when we said we weren't having him shaved down

So many people shave yorkies and poodles down too.

I just dont understand why someone gets a dog with a specific hair type if they dont want that hair.

I used to say that, too, but now I don't believe that because think of the dogs that are best for people with allergies--most are dogs that require a lot of grooming and have that type of coat. If someone still wants a dog, I think it's just fine to get it's fur cut down. Also, maybe the personality of the breed and everything else is just perfect for the person. It's a little silly to not get the breed just because of its coat type

I get this... and I dont expect most people to keep a yorkie in a show cut with hair down to the floor... it is close to impossible to keep up with hair like that... by all means keep the dog in a short or "sport" cut...but I dont agree with having a dog shaved all the time... they have that hair for a reason to protect them from the elements... heat, cold, sun, etc. I see people walking around in sub 30 degree weather with their 100% shaved dog with no coat on... its like I wouldnt walk around naked why should the dog?

Ah, ok, I get you. Yeah, I don't like the down to skin clips either.

someone in my training class has a puli (dog with the dreads) who she shaved completly..

whats the point of getting the dog, who she paid ALOT FOR, and then getting rid of such a special trait?
she said it was because of the heat in miami when they go for walks
i wonder if it will grow back the same

My mom used to do that to all of her dogs. I hated it. Tried to tell her that shaving a dog with a long coat does more harm than good. She always tried to convince me that they were much cooler in the summer with a short coat...

My golden has his booty shaved, not ubber short, but not long either. Helps me keep up with the matting that he tends to get. But I couldn't imagine shaving his coat during the summers because I thought he'd be hot...oy...

We used to shave Daisy (RIP), my sister's maltX. We did it ourselves because the only groomer in town had a bad rep.
We lived in hugley hot/humid temperatures though and her whole demeanor changed when she was clipped off. She got all bouncy and puppy-ish again.

When it was all grown out (sitting in a flower pot)

All clipped off, sorry not a good pic. But we always left her moustache, her tail and her ears on and only trimmed her eyebrows. It Suited her, she looks great./

Some suit it better than their "normal" look!!!

The old english! I LOVE these dogs - sooooo bouncy and comical, and they suit being all streamlined!

Cockers look weird shaved.. I had pics of Cider before her pom pom legs grew in seems I deleted them as the were that hideous. Even with ears and feet it's bad.

Yeah, the shaved sheltie... not so good. Sanitary clip or shaving the stomach looks much nicer if you want to clip them.

I agree, though, Dizzy about the OES. They look awesome clipped down. Our neighbor has one they shave every summer. And poodles always look stunning in a very short retriever clip.
